Bookish NYE
Is anyone else planning to have a low key New Year's Eve this year? Would you be interested if I hosted a bookish virtual party here on Tumblr? We could play tag games and do a readathon/readalong?
Just an idea!

Hey Mary - since you're free today I thought it might be fun to ask you (and your followers if they would like) to describe an ideal day- doesn't have to be THE ideal day, just one iteration of a perfect day ❤ best, Grace
Grace, you precious human <3
Well, for me: wake up fairly early, it’s snowing outside, the bed is comfy and warm, i have a mug of coffee next to me and a book that i’m loving. And I genuinely read the day away.
Autobiography ☺
Thank you!
Autobiography: Who is the protagonist you most relate to?
Okay, picking one is really hard, so I’m actually going to give two. The first is Cath from Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl. Like her, I have bad anxiety that caused me a lot of trouble in my first year of college. The second is Gordie Lachance from Stephen King’s The Body. I first read it when I was twelve, the same age he is in the book, and his personality is very similar to mine. At the time, I was also experiencing some similar problems and situations as him.

Bookish: What is your reading goal for this year?
70 books, but I am also hoping to write more reviews this year (cause im done with schoolllllllllll) (okay as of tomorrow)
#AlwaysReadHP18 Prompt 2: Favourite Character
I’m cheating. My favorite “character” is The Marauders, so I get four for the price of one :P
- Remus is probably the character I relate the most to, and he’s the first one I thought of when I read the prompt. So okay, fine, if I have to pick ONE favourite character, it’s Remus. I don’t really feel up to getting into it tonight, but basically, my friend group in high school nicknamed ourselves after the Marauders, and I was Remus, and so, like, everything about that part of my life is really tied in with the Marauders for me.
- Sirius is just such a GOOD character; I don’t think I was really aware until recently of how significant he is and how much Harry is impacted by him and how conflicted his relationships with other characters are. And what’s really fascinating is how he’s definitely one of THE iconic characters of the series but he’s only IN three of the books. That’s how you know a character is well crafted.
- Peter intrigues me because there’s clearly something about him that the books do not do justice to. He was important to the rest of the group and JK really doesn’t give us a lot to go on as to why. I actually have a long-ass fic outlined to delve into that and so basically he’s important to me because of my headcanons rather than what’s actually in the text.
- James actually is the one of them that I have the most trouble with. I’m really uncomfortable with the way that his negative qualities get swept under the rug by the others in sort of a “boys will be boys” way. There’s a lot I’m gonna have to sit with about him still. Which, honestly? Just shows the staying power of this story. It’s 2018 and I’m still processing ideas and feelings about Harry Potter. How cool is that?
Day 9: Thoughts on Chamber of Secrets
I don't have a ton of thoughts on this one, except OMG, holy cow, I know Voldemort is like evil and stuff, but man, spilling a school girl's innermost thoughts to her crush like that? So. Mean.
It just makes me really glad that they eventually end up together. I imagine a lot of nights, in bed next to each other, and Harry all, "mm-hm, yuh, so what else did you write about me?" Because after a while, in a good relationship, you get REAL comfortable and you talk about EVERYTHING. 😂
Challenge Your Shelf November | Day 3: Unexpected
I went into my local bookstore today to look around and came away with The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, and this beautiful bookmark which says ‘Wherever you go, go with all your heart’. It was unexpected in that it’s a novel, and I mainly read nonfiction and can’t remember the last time I bought a novel. I was drawn to it by its beautiful cover, its intriguing story about a Spanish shepherd boy who journeys to Egypt seeking treasure buried near the pyramids, and the fact that I recently bought a planner with quotes by the author in it, and wanted to check out his work.
Have you ever bought a book that was unexpected or unusual for you, or out of your reading comfort zone? Did you end up enjoying it?
I can’t wait to start reading this book
