𝙃𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙢𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩: As much as I love the silhouette I cut back in 2016, I didn't love the lifestyle I'd created · This picture was taken at my lightest and as much as I would 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 to have that waistline right about now, I'm 10 times happier instead. You see this girl here would work out twice, sometimes 3 times a day ... often those workouts would only be short 20-30 minute bursts of cardio but they would often mean passing on social opportunities (or sleep) to fit them in · This girl here would rather skip a meal than eat something 'off plan', would often feel faint in the gym because she hadn't eaten enough that day and would only ever order a salad in a restaurant (even though she always wanted the burger). This girl was trapped by her fear of what the scales might say if she dared to have rice with her curry, by what her food tracker would say if she had a slice of garlic bread with her Nandos and what the tape measure would say if she had a beer at the rugby. The day I started to educate myself and broke free from the fear that the lies of other and a corrupt industry had instilled in me was the day I found my happiness again. Yes I weigh in 5 or 6kgs heavier than I did here, but those legs would not have been able to carry me on a 2.6 mile run never mind a marathon! The morale of this story? How do you build muscle? ⠀ If you stimulate a muscle enough that it needs to adapt to make itself stronger, you’re going to add muscle mass and, of course, get stronger. ⠀ I’ve spoken about delayed onset muscular soreness before and mentioned that your muscles undergo a certain level of micro trauma if they are stressed sufficiently (This can be seen in the middle picture) ⠀ The body then rebuilds the muscle to be bigger and stronger (As seen in the bottom picture) ⠀ This process is often the cause of the soreness you experience post workout. ⠀ This won’t make your muscles huge overnight though. It takes years of constant stimulation to truly see major size and strength differences if you’ve been already working out.
