Haha I didn't mean a mermaid AU per say! Rather whatever Archie must have been thinking before his legs sufficiently healed.

Totally agree with that headcanon about Archie! I wonder... what if specifically he was born with a severe case of muscular dystrophy?? This would make walking difficult or maybe even impossible for him. His legs were cured/treated only after years of intensive water therapy... maybe that's another reason he loves the water! I'm just imagining a "Part of Your World" scenario where little Archie can swim really good but wants to walk like normal people...

Archie’s friends would help him on bad days most likely. Although Shelly and Matt try not to baby him too much because Archie is rather prideful. Maxie wouldn’t ever say anything about helping him for both their prides sake.

If you’re talking mermaid AU sort of thing, then that comparison to trade an able fin for less than stable legs seems rather unfair. Maybe like the witch screwed him in the deal?

HEADCANON: Archie has some physical disability that makes it difficult to walk. Maybe as a kid he needed crutches or leg braces? Thus he can be rather clumsy on dry land; which is why he loves being on/in the water. It's the one place where he feels strong and graceful; where he doesn't feel like a helpless weakling out of his element.

Funny that! I was looking through prompts and one said ‘one has a missing limb’ and I immediately thought of double leg amputee Maxie (which is why he wears leggings with shorts and the ONE time he runs he falls over).

With your headcannon, they’d probably bond a bit on that (though mine is Maxie was in an accident and no longer has them) although I see it as a kind of silly domestic times? 

Archie would pull the ‘Babe can you get me a snack? I can’t walk that far, bad legs and all that.’ and then Maxie throws one of his prosthetic legs at him.

Serious time; Maxie (my prompt along side it or no) would be very supportive of Archie and his disability considering his work with lava is known to cause a few injuries (from serious burns to potential limb loss [if not a horrible death]) so most of his coworkers would not be without their own little ‘mark’ or three.

Maybe helping him through physical therapy to better steady himself and not being too anal at certain times when he knows Archie’s having a bad day?

surprisingly no! Most of my ideas and inspirations are entirely random which makes things complicated for motivation is spent mostly used trying to figure out everything OTL

Ever heard of "The 13th Year"? It's this old Disney Channel movie, about the unlikely friendship between a nerdy kid and a swim team star obsessed with being in the water... I swear to god, that movie has Hardenshipping written all over it XD. (might be a good idea for an AU!)

SERIOUSLY. Ik they couldn’t make it anything but straight (because Disney is notorious for throwing a fit over ANYTHING more than same sex ‘friendship’). It was SO OBVIOUS there was some romantic tension (as well as platonic) and imagining an highschool AND a mermaid au? BEST OF BOTH WORLDS :D
