The last few days have been terribly windy here. I almost had myself talked out of going to Bisti Badlands, “it’s going to be too windy” & “it just rained, and the hike out there will be a slimy mess.” But I’d been trying to get here for almost two years & when Kathy put it in perspective, I knew I had to go and try. Often the best days to photograph are the days when everything is against you. Also, subjecting yourself to a storm means you can be in the perfect location as the clouds part and sweet light shines through. This day was just such a reminder that nothing happens until you try. Often, trying hurts and is very unpleasant, but 60 mph winds couldn’t keep me from making these images once I set my mind to it. It’s good to be reminded of this as the rewards are so awesome.
