While married to Sharon Ventura, The Thing had two children with her, Alyce and Jake. Like her older brother Alyce was named after one of the The Thing’s legal guardians. Unlike her brother and father, Ben Grimm, she did not inherit his rock like skin. A fact that Ben was very grateful for, citing she looked very much like her mother. When her parents divorced Alyce understood the fact the two were better off as friends, and supported her father when he pursued a relationship with old flame, Alicia Masters. When her mother decided to move to San Francisco to be safer, Alyce agreed seeing the logic of leaving behind all her father’s enemies.
Still she missed her father very much, and was excited for his visits, even agreeing to train under him. She cares for her younger half siblings, but feels slightly irked that none of them inherited their father’s skin like her brother did. While she and Jake are very close, she wishes to one day find a cure to allow him a human form having seen how much being in that rock form pained her father. When Jake left for the Academy she was unsure whether to go preferring the quieter life. Hearing from her ‘uncle’ Reed Richards how great the equipment was she eventually came over in hopes to continue her research.
