Am I going to finally color my Alysium (dark fantasy novel series) map after however long it's been since making it?
Yes, yes I am ... Finally.
This morning I decided to have coffee in the shadow garden. What is the shadow garden to me? What makes it a shadow garden? It was the perfect morning for it because it was overcast And not too much sun was shining This morning at all But we made the best of it And had wonderful coffee In the place where I find my peace and happiness.
The little ladybug my daughter made smiles hello from her perch upon the greek column I converted to a planter. a sunflower, in fact all of my sunflower this year came up by itself where seeds had dropped the last year. so I let them claim whatever pot or space they decided to occupy.
they are absolutely lovely.
I like creating my own little worlds inside The pots where my plants grow. Just a way of me combining my Love of miniatures and model railroading And my gardening all together in And my gardening all together in 1. I always tell artemisia you have to let a man play with his toys. He will grow you beautiful flowers every time. To me the shadow garden came about Because half of my garden Is in constant shadow And the other half is in constant sun. Rather than be coerced into cutting the trees around the area to get more sun I decided That I actually like my plants that are grown in the shade. Some plants only do good in the shade. Especially my ivy's and some of my flowers. As time goes on I'm going to propagate them with more nighttime plant choices And more plants that thrive in the shadow. Without the shadow we can't have light. And I feel that my garden should be a celebration of that. The whole rounded life of a plant from shadow to light. A weed or a shadow plant Is a plant nobody really wants. I've seen to gravitate towards these plants especially. Some of them have beautiful flowers and beautiful leaves. To leave them behind Or to weed them out seems such a waste As they are beautiful and are usually natural to the area to which you are trying to grow them. The easiest way to start a shadow garden is to just let it go. It will show you what kind of plants it needs It will show you what the natural plants are in your area. Just keep your eyes open and let your garden talk to you. In the back of my garden I have a little area that disappears between my garages Where my groundhog now lives Along with other live animals that have taken up residence there. Is like a tunnel The mouth of which I have put a Prize little Buddha of mine. To me this represents the entrance to the underworld. Someday we're going to have a big adventure there. But not today.
it's not morbid...... it's zen. here I find a peace in my heart and my head I can rarely find elsewhere. that in itself is reason enough to have it. it is it's own reward for what little work I have actually put into it. A place to contemplate life and death and everything that went in between.
our resident stray L (short for elvis,) makes a daily appearance for breakfast. he isn't disappointed. people can say what they like, I'm going to feed my buddy L and not feel bad about it at all. he appreciates the help.
(to be continued...)

I would love to hear about Cairistine 👀
She's got mean mommy vibes 💚
Thank you for asking! And, yeah, she can definitely be bad and she totally plays into it but not in a 'mwah-ha-ha' evil laugh kind of way.
Cairistine is an elf forced into an arranged marriage by her father and is paired with the human King's brother in order to seal a deal between humanity and the elves of Alysium. The brother would then take control of Shadowacre located in the Northernmost mountains and the sole source of what's called 'Godmail.' It's a metal that seems to have otherworldly properties.
I won't get too far into the rest because it'll be told in the books, but Cairistine becomes the ruler of Shadowacre and she absolutely loathes the King and everything he stands for.
Her rise and fight against him is the main plot of the books.
Now, on a meta note: I actually was inspired by Maria Brink from In This Moment for Cairistine on many levels. Hell, she's her face and voice claim for fucks sake but also, her stage personality drives a lot of my thoughts about Cairistine. Especially the most recent releases. Now, not everything is exactly the same, don't get me wrong, but there are some neat little connections to the music I like.
If you want to know anything more about her or any of the characters in Alysium, please ask away!
