The viruses that cause the apocalypse in both the Planet of the Apes Preboot & 28 Later series both spread to humans from chimpanzees.
My theory is they’re both set in the same universe.
PotA is set in the Western United States, while 28 Later is set in England, so aside from the respective viruses having different symptoms there wouldn’t be much direct contradiction between the two series, and that much can be accounted for by the virus mutating or the lack of reliable information networks after the breakdown of society.
