For Recess: May 21, 2014, Am has been transforming Recess’s space into a recreation of Dave Navarro’s home, as seen on this 2002 episode of MTV’s Cribs.
Am has collected a selection of Dave Navarro’s signature guitars. The paper printouts taped to two of them show the custom painting that Navarro has on his and which Am will recreate.
Next step: installing large-scale print of Dave Navarro in Recess’s storefront window.
As part of her Session, Am screened Dave Navarro’s documentary, Mourning Son. One of the lasting impacts of cult sitcom Friends is its endless supply of prime 90s fashion inspiration. And artist Am Schmidt has a predilection for Rachel Green's closet, in particular. Not only did Jennifer Anniston's beloved characterinspire an eponymous hairstyle, she was something of a clotheshorse. In homage to Rachel's mini skirts, spaghetti straps, and overalls, Schmidt recreated four of Anniston's most iconic looks for a recent solo exhibition at 321 Gallery in Brooklyn.
