Goosebumps (2015)
MoM’s 2017 October Movie List: October 1st
I liked this, but at the same time I was disappointed by it. This is one of those movies I’ve seen before that I’ve just never reviewed. It’s about a boy moving in next door to R.L. Stine and his daughter, both of whom are super secretive. The boy thinks the daughter is being locked up against her will, and in the process of trying to help her, managers to open up R.L. Stines collection of books... And the monsters all jump out, with Slappy the dummy as their leader. I’ve seen the first 2 seasons of Goosebumps, and read a lot of the books, so I caught a handful of references, but that also means I had higher expectations. Goosebumps was a spooky show with spooky endings that weren’t always resolved in a great way. The movie had a too happy ending. And the special effects should have been darker and creepier. It was all super CGI and light hearted. The new Ghostbusters movie had special effects that Goosebumps should have had. Spooky and ominous. Also, and most importantly, the Goosebumps song did not appear. Where’s the FUCKING THEME SONG?
Rating: B. It could have been better and more true to form, but R.L. Stine had to have approved this since he appeared in it, so whatever. I liked his Fear Street series better, anyway.
