still haven't rewatched the second mike's mic glee video to type up my fave quotes but i'm rewatching amandabb's second glee video rn so here are my fave quotes from that xx
nobody wants to hear songs from your childhood, will schuester. i know he probably had a sad childhood which is why all his friends are children
it's ohio, everyone's bored
this is the same as pitch perfect. the barden bellas?? they used to only do old shit and they kept losing. mhmm, cinematic parallels
will schuester is either completely unaware of how much talent is in the glee club, which would mean he's stupid, or he didnt know how to work with all the talent in the glee club, which means he's stupid. either way, he's dumb
finn can sing. i dont think he can Sing, he can't keep up with rachel by any means, but he can sing
rachel and finn dont need to be lead every single time. but i get why they were bc the only other person that finn had chemistry with was quinn and i would never want to see that
something passionate but not too passionate bc we dont want a repeat of s2 nationals bc that was a disgrace
because this is a pop song, i dont want rachel anywhere near it
i think signed sealed delivered should've seen a stage
mr schue wasted santana's god given talents
artie held his own whenever there were dance breaks. he was outdancing some of the people standing up
rachel can never understand its about the group. this is the glee CLUB, not rachel and guest
you got the best singer from the warblers. their lead. he was the center of everything. and you put him in the back sashaying. what's going on??
[still about blaine] you need to put your best foot forward. and your best foot is in the back swaying next to sam
[joe] could've carried songs by himself. it was just, i guess his look wasnt right? cause he did look kinda - he looked weird. i thought he was hot. i dunno, i look back and im like really? white man with dreads, really?
it is a damn shame that will threw every ounce of his creativity into the thriller/heads will roll performance for a high school football game
but when it came to nationals had them in some justice knock off costumes bedazzled by emma. pillsbury.
so [will] "learns", but then the learning left his moussed brain immediately after
jake puckerman shouldve been the very clear lead the moment he set foot into the music room
her 3 videos about degrassi are SO GOOD she's so funny and insightful .... i watched videos of hers about shit i don't even care about just because she's that entertaining so imagine what it's like when she rants about DEGRASSI. i love her
Watching amandabb’s new degrassi video for season 11 and she’s like “I hope maya isn’t still crushing on zig bc there’s no way that will end well” and I started crying
Why are female YouTubers, especially female commentary-style YouTubers, just like,,,,,idk so powerful????? Like I’ll be watching some YouTuber who posts multiple analysis videos with research behind them each month and she’ll be like “so sorry for posting a few days late guys, nursing school has been really rough on me lately, especially because I have finals, but I still wanted to get this 40-minute video essay out before the month ended 🥺 love you guys” like DAMN girlboss go OFF
Adella Afadi. A recent video she made was about the pressure to be feminine, and damn, if that ain’t touch my heart.
AsToldByKenya. She pretty much talks about whatever interests her for that day, whether it be Sims, make up, Black Women, or celebrating drama. She’s great.
Amandabb. Similar to what I said about Kenya’s channel, but she specifically calls her channel “a beauty and entertainment channel.” Also great.
Amandamaryanna. Basically, she tries to romanticize her life, and she takes us with her.
Aishyo. I don’t watch as much of her, but she’s also a movie/tv commentator, and her latest video was on Fast Colors. So good!
April Bee. She does a lot of room makeovers.
Basicgorl. She does movie/tv show editing, and sometimes commentary.
Asmara. A Black simmer and video gamer.
Chanelletime. A Black booktuber.
Chosen One Reactions. She reacts to tv shows, right now doing the OG Charmed and Once Upon a Time.
Deeper Than Hair. She’s a Black hairdresser and business owner, who makes inspirational and nonjudgmental hair care/trim videos.
Deesims. One of the original Black simmers.
Dimplicity, a Black simmer.
I have more, but… I’m sleepy lol
For anybody paying any attention to the content on the page that isn’t just images, I told my friends that I have some ideas for Anniversary April, but I’m also accepting ideas and it just occurred to me that since I don’t get much content from YouTube (only like funny shit and old TV and movies and such), idek any Black women creators of today on YouTube. Like… I’ll go follow people whenever they be like, “Follow me,” but I don’t ever actually watch them. 😅 I used to see Hey Fran Hey and Chescaleigh and that’s like it.
So, I asked in a trusted space if they had suggestions of ones I could highlight for the page. It’s a small page, but I do want to include all mediums that Black women are on.
Basically it’s a system of trust, because I definitely will most likely not be listening to anything (and I know that people like rundowns of recommendations), but all I can really say is that I’m posting the recs from friends and if y’all wanna research the content creators to see if they’re for you, you can do so, but I’m not doing it because I don’t have time for that. This is still a free blog and I still have adult things at home.
YES, this is a space for “characters,” but also for creatives and entertainers. Because the same people who want to see characters like the ones I showcase may want other entertainment, as well. And at the end of the day, content creators do create a persona for the world who may not be the exact reflection of themselves. So, in a way, they’re characters too, just more serious and relatable ones.
"Don't Know Who to Watch" on YouTube Now That Jenna Marbles is on Hiatus? Here are 10 Black YouTubers You Can Support in Her Absence:
Nyma Tang: Nyma is a make-up and beauty vlogger who has a popular series called "The Darkest Shade" where she tries out the darkest shade from foundation launches and sees if they will work for her complexion. She's funny, honest, and provides a lot of useful information about makeup regardless of your skin tone.
Nathan Zed: Nathan's been a YouTuber since 2011, where he originally went under the name TheThirdPew. He took a break to finish school, but is back and better than ever. Nathan does comedy sketches and commentary, and is incredibly funny.
Patricia Bright: Patricia is somewhat of a Jack of All Trades. While her content started as beauty and lifestyle, she's recently launched a second channel dedicated to educating her followers on financial literacy. You can access that channel, called The Break Platform, here.
CalebCity: That kid from vine? He has a YouTube channel now. Caleb uploads comedy sketches, and in the spirit of vine, they're normally pretty short. They're also a little Twilight Zone-y, so you're always in for a twist ending.
TooMuchMouth: Shanygne is a makeup and lifestyle vlogger. She also makes (hilarious imo) storytime videos of her past experiences in retail work. She has her degree in PR and recently started a series where she analyzes the failure of once popular make up brands, and tells how she would go about reviving them if she was in charge.
For Harriet: Kim is a social commentator. She does deep analyses of racism in pop culture, and speaks about the intersectionality of racism with other social issues, including feminism and rights for the lgbt+ community.
Arnell Armon: Arnell is an incredibly funny hair and makeup artist, who has a series on her channel where she recreates famous celebrity hairstyles and wigs. Her videos are often her walking us through how she creates her looks, though sometimes she does more "get ready with me" style videos where she talks about her life, answers questions, etc. (She also has a twin sister who does makeup, and went viral for her Fenty foundation reviews. You can access her channel here.)
Khadi Don: Khadi is also an ex-viner turned YouTube sketch comic, and she's one of the few female sketch comedians on YouTube. Her videos are often parodies of famous Black movies. Khadi also recently posted a video detailing her struggles with depression and anxiety, and the difficulty of being a comedian who struggles with those issues.
amandabb: Amanda is a social commentator and a self proclaimed "ranter". Her videos often dissect pop culture, and she has a series called "Everything Wrong with ______" where she talks about different television shows. Amanda also just posted two really good videos talking about Shane Dawson and the idea of "cancel culture".
Jackie Aina: Jackie is probably the OG popular Black makeup vlogger. She's been YouTube for around 10 years now, and continues to break ceilings for Black women on the platform. While Jackie is no stranger to YouTube-Beauty-Guru-style drama, she has seized every opportunity for growth and self reflection, and her authenticity shows clearly in her videos. She uses her platform to advocate for representation for Black women, specifically dark skinned Black women, both in the makeup world and in everyday life. (Her editing is also hilarious.) Jackie has also unfortunately been the victim of persistent and unfathomable racism, including from her fellow makeup YouTuber, Jeffree Star.
Bonus: it's not a YouTuber, but you can watch A Black Lady Sketch Show on HBO's YouTube Channel here. It's a sketch comedy show made entirely by Black women, and heavily features queer Black icons as well. It's also hilarious.
So there you go! 10 new people to watch and give your support to while Jenna takes her break. I hope this list introduces you to someone new, provides you with a new perspective, and opens up your bubble just a little bit.
