hi! i was wondering if you use any xcfs for your edits? and how you colour your edits in general (xcfs, filter pack, levels, color-balance, etc.)
Hello again! I don’t really use xcfs. For moodboards I only use the xcf templates I made myself for image spacing and for icons I have xcfs of just the different background colours I use so I can import those with each set of icons I make. But for my random edits and the few music video edits I’ve done I haven’t had any set xcfs because honestly I haven’t even thought about that as an option. I have thought about making sets of wave overlays because I seem to gravitate to those in my random edits but I feel like it’s always easier for me to think on my feet and have something somewhat unique each time.
For colouring it’s all subjective to what I’m making.
In moodboards, usually I’ll go off of the colours of the center image (which is always an idol) because it’s easier to manipulate colours on the surrounding images. I usually mess around with Exposure, Contrast and Hue/Saturation/Lightness. If I really can’t get the images to be similar then I’ll adjust the Color Balance/Temperature where necessary. If I can’t get a consistent contrast/lightness without compromising the colours I’ll make an overlay of the appropriate size and colour and adjust the transparency until it looks right. That’s usually the smoky/hazed look some of my images have.
In icons, I try to use sets of images (comeback concept images or photoshoot images) because 9/10 times they’ll all be similar in contrast/lightness/colour. Personally I like to boost the saturation a bit and bump up the contrast so everything is clear and defined and not hazy looking. The backgrounds of my icons are also subject to the colouring of the image. e.g. how bright/dark a background is depends on the brightness/darkness of the image. But I don’t have any set xcfs I use for colouring.
In the Wonho / Kihyun Magazine Mockups I boosted the contrast and colour a bit because they were actually scanned images I took and the matte pages gave them a sort of dulled look. I also smudge their skin lightly at like 20/30% opacity just to remove the page texture. I don’t think I adjusted any colours in the Livin’ It Up Magazine Mockup.
TLDR: I don’t use xcfs for colouring and i’m really slow and do it all differently per edit.
If you’d like a specific tutorial on something colouring wise, like how can I get X image to look similar to Z image then I can try to do that to. Also there’s a few MV Moodboards I’ve done where there’s scenes that I’ve coloured differently than the original, if you can spot them and want to know how I did that I can make a short tutorial on it?
