Drarry Fic Rec: Close Behind by @oflights

I know a lot of you have read this when it was being posted as a chapter fic, so I'm late to the game, but just in case you haven't...you should.

@oflights is masterful in the storytelling and pacing for all 134K words. There are switches of timelines, places, and POV for the various chapters. From the beginning, you know something bad happened to Harry and Draco in the past and you know an additional bad thing happened to Draco, which about crushed Harry. However, as you learn about what is going on in different timelines, you get so caught up in the storytelling of one timeline you forget that there's more and then the hammer comes down. We are told from the start that there is a happy ending. Keep that in mind...always.

It reminded me of when I first read Turn. There was the beginning with Harry upset with kids and life and then there was the whole alternate life with Draco. You got lost in it and loved it even though somewhere in the back of your mind you knew it would end.

Three of the big standouts in the story is the magical lore and the exploration of the underworld. Good grief, what a concept. And second is Scorpius. You will love him to pieces. Also there is this very cute strange little pup that you'll become very attached to.

I'm not telling much of the plot here because it has to be experienced. But Harry being Deputy Headmaster at Hogwarts is where it starts. Draco an expert Curse-breaker lives in Hogsmeade with Scorpius and Scorpius attends Hogwarts.

My Opinion:

This is a canon divergence story. It is relatively new and I just finished it a few days ago. It is probably one of the best things I have ever read. It is SO GOOD. This story kind of follows the events of AoT but at the same time it doesn’t. The author changes a lot of things which makes it very exciting because you don’t know what’s going to happen next and which character will die. The story begins with the 104th in training. Levi as well as Isabel and Farlan ( they are only 2 years older than Eren and the rest) got catchend at the same time in the underground as Eren and his friends started their training. But instead of getting recruited into the survey corps right away Levi and his friends have to go through training first. This is how Eren and Levi first meet. Let me just say that this is a slow burn but it’s the best and most realistic slow burn I have ever read. Their relationship is just beautiful and how they developed feelings for each other felt so real to me. It started with Levi not really liking Eren and being annoyed by him. After they spend some time together they start to like and care for each other and are really close friends. It’s Eren who develops a crush on Levi and once Levi notices that, he is in denial about his own feelings. The plot is really amazing and other characters also play a very important role in this story. It doesn’t feel like any character is ooc in this story so the author did an amazing job. There is also a sequel to the story that just started a few days ago and I’m already so excited for it. The author also updates incredibly fast. They wrote over 300k words in just 4 months and they update almost every single day. It’s crazy 🤯 The writing style is also beautiful. The author is so talented and I can’t wait for the next chapters of the sequel 😍😍 I can absolutely recommend this story to you. You won’t regret it and I’m sure you’re going to fall in love with the story as well as in Levi’s and Eren’s relationship.
