Just wanted to say thanks for posting that anon who talked about that racist thing that was said using Halbrand... it's... so incredibly insane I could not believe it... but then I found out that's the same person who turned Gil-galad and Elrond into villains, they LOVE Sauron = Elrond, and they are 100% convinced that Elrond slut-shamed Galadriel (Elrond says things like "like a spring rain over the bones of a dead animal" why are they twisting his words like that 💀)...
They are saying ANYTHING to valorize haladriel but it's just so much hate... and all the likes they're getting... 💀
Oh, I hear you. Some of these takes are absolutely unhinged. And it’s not even just about shipping preferences at this point—it’s about deliberately twisting canon, ignoring context, and spreading straight-up hateful rhetoric, all while somehow pretending they’re the victims.
Like, the fact that someone sat down and went, “You know what? Let me racialize this entire situation and frame Halbrand’s character as some kind of malicious political allegory”—it’s deranged. And that’s before even getting into the outright rewriting of Elrond and Gil-galad’s characters to make them into some cartoonish villains, just so Sauron can be propped up as a misunderstood little meow meow.
And the Elrond slut-shaming Galadriel thing? What?? Elrond, the man who respects and defends her even when she’s difficult? The man who, canonically, adores her? People will do anything to push an agenda at this point.
I don’t even have an issue with people liking Haladriel (ship what you want, I don’t care), but this isn’t shipping. This is a desperate attempt to make their preferred version of events the only version, even if it means spewing the most vile, bad-faith interpretations imaginable. And the fact that these kinds of posts get likes and support? That’s what’s so exhausting. It’s one thing when some random troll is spouting nonsense, but when it’s getting traction and encouragement, it just emboldens them to keep going.
And some of these Sauron stans… listen, I love a good villain as much as anyone. But some (not all!) of these people take it to a level that is deeply unsettling. It’s not about enjoying a complex antagonist or appreciating a well-written dark character—it’s about outright deifying him while tearing down literally everyone else. Some of them act like Sauron is a poor little misunderstood baby boy who just needed a hug, and everyone else—Elrond, Gil-galad, Galadriel, Celebrimbor—deserved whatever happened to them. It’s wild.
I’ve seen them twist canon so hard it practically snaps in half. Some of them don’t even believe in the idea of an unreliable narrator when it comes to Sauron—they take his manipulations as fact, while anything his victims say must be lies. And then they’ll turn around and accuse us of being biased? Please.
It’s just such a mess, and I’m sorry you had to see that garbage. But I appreciate you and everyone else who refuses to just sit quietly while this nonsense spreads. This fandom deserves better.
