“i’ve never seen you off your game like this.”
James took a deep breath as he tried to get his bearings or at least look like he had them. "Hey," he said, attempting his usual smile. It felt hollow even to him.
He let it fall under the scrutiny of Amelia's gaze. "I've never seen you off your game like this."
"Yeah, well," James grumbled. "I'm working a lot and... not sleeping well." He didn't tell her it was because of the confusion and sorrow that filled his dreams, nor the red hair filtering through it.
He waved his hand as she opened her mouth to argue. "I'm fine. Or at least, I'll be fine."
