MUSCLE SHOALS THEY GOT THE SWAMPERS, no. 1. So, this is also kind of an “inspired by current events” one, and a lot of other categories. This is a foundational album for me (first exposure via David Hatfield in high school), and was recorded down in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, the famous studio. To keep it brief, I listened to “American Tune” a couple weeks ago online AND I HAVE BEEN SINGING IT NON-STOP ever since. It’s the exact right mix of hopeful and worried but mostly worried. And as you listen to this album, a dozen phrases jump out as appropriate to right now: “When something goes wrong, I’m the first to admit/The first to admit it, and the last one to know...” “Come on take me to the Mardi Gras...” (no! don’t!) “It’s just apartment house rules so all you ‘partment house fools, remember, one man’s ceiling is another man’s floor....” “And if I was the president the minute the congress would call my name I’d say, ‘Who do, who do you think you’re foolin’/I’ve got the presidential seal, I’m up on the presidential podium/My mama loves me [TRUE OR FALSE]...” A perfect pandemic listen. #paulsimon #pandemicalbums #theregoesrhyminsimon #americantune #kodachrome #takemetothemardigras #nodont #onemansceilingisanothermansfloor #lovesmelikearock #muscleshoals #dixiehummingbirds #swampers (at Noblesville, Indiana) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-pTtm8AA5j/?igshid=1t1r24o19hem8
