@americasmonster sent ; "you’ve been avoiding me ." for bell
avoiding would maybe be an understatement in this situation. bell had never felt anger before as he did when the truth came spilling out of adler through the mk ultra coursing through bell’s veins. he can’t ever remember feeling that angry, but that was adler’s fault too, wasn’t it? it was adler who made it so bell couldn’t remember his true past, adler who erased all bell was and remade bell in his image. what even was his real name? would adler ever tell him or would he be stuck forever in the shame of bell?
it felt like second nature to radio to perseus’ operatives when bell was released from the gurney and told they had an hour before they left. it had felt right in the moment, so why did it feel so wrong now? bell felt like a coward, a traitor to his motherland, but also to adler’s team despite all they did to him. why did he still feel loyalty to them, to the man who brainwashed him?
there’s less than an hour before bell betrays everything he can remember. he’d say friendships, but that’s not quite true here, is it? the dark room feels like the only safe space in the safe house, the only place he could hide and maybe no one would come looking for him until it was time to leave. he should’ve known better, adler never leaves him alone for long. but he can’t really blame adler for that, for not trusting him.
bell shakes his head, staring up at adler’s figure from where bell’s pressed into the corner by the table holing the tv inside the dark room. “not avoiding, no,” he answers, voice cracking slightly. there’s pain in his voice, maybe even a little fear of the man in front of him, for the things adler had done and what adler might do if he knew what bell had done. “just thinking, lots to think about.” and there was, wasn’t there? so much had been revealed to bell in the last several hours, and bell had made rash decisions based off them. maybe he was the monster adler should’ve been worried about, maybe he was never meant to be the hero like adler was. he was just perseus’ dog through and through.
