Amir’s relationship with his dad isn’t very good. His dad, who has always had a bit of a temper, has become even more cranky and unreliable in his old age. It’s Amir who has to do all of the practical stuff at home, like cooking dinner for himself and his little sister, Kristyn.

Amir’s mother (Emma’s sister) died when Amir was a kid. They were very close and her death brought Amir’s anger problems to the surface. He’s been struggling in school ever since, but this past year he has surrounded himself with good people - his cousin, Lake, his friends, and girlfriend. Amir is still a troubled kid, who both loves seeing people suffering more than him, but he also has a need to make the people close to him happy. It’s two sides of him always fighting to be in charge.
