Fool In Love

Draco Malfoy x Reader ♀

Y/N P.O.V:

  The beginning of sixth year at Hogwarts has been pretty relaxing. However, this is me comparing it to last year, which was mainly taken over and ruled by, the ridiculous amount of homework and all of the stupid OWLs they forced us to do. So, by 'pretty relaxing' what I actually mean is: so far this year no event has particularly strained my brain; made me join extracurricular clubs (that I don't even want to join in the first place); or been even vaguely interesting.

  With my new relaxed way of spending my time at Hogwarts, I have found a new favourite hobby that consists of sitting by the fire, in the slowly warming Slytherin common room; surrounded by people, that would usually (and rightfully so) be considered complete crackpots and arseholes by the rest of the school, but for the period of the day that we spend by the fire, I happily consider my friends.

  As the six of us sit, squashed onto two couches by the crackling fire, I feel a warm arm tighten around my waist, pulling me ever so closer to its owners body. I spin my head to the right and peer up into Draco's eye with a slight look of confusion on my face.

      "What do you think you're doing?" I question, with a hint of cheek in my voice.

      "What... a guy can't hug his best friend close to him to stay warmer?" He replies back sass laced in his voice.

      "Oh would you two stop flirting!" I hear Zabini say looking up from his homework he had been trying to finish for the last hour.

      "We're not!" I reply. Zabini simply just rolls his eyes.

  I look over to where Crabbe and Goyle were sitting, to see Goyle slowly drifting off with a slight snore coming from his mouth. Crabbe, however, had a look of disgust on his face. I followed the gaze of his eyes and saw that it landed on Draco's arm around my waist. Draco seemed to be aware that I was looking at his limb that was still holding onto me, and took this as a sign to unfasten his grip - leaving me with what felt like a bare and cold midriff.

  The silence within our group returned as we all continued to stare at the fire or in Zabini's case, attempt to finishing homework that should've been done last week. The next movement I noticed was Crabbe reaching for a Bakewell tart in the middle of the coffee table. Uninterested in the decision making process that Crabbe was completing (trying to decide which tart was the optimum choice); I turned my attention back towards the fire - now admiring the intricate detailing on the mantlepiece. However, out the corner of my eye I saw a smirking Malfoy and that can never mean anything good was about to happen. I furrowed my eyebrows and gave Draco a nudge.

      "What the hell are you smirking at?" I ask him, intrigued. He motions his head towards Crabbe who has now running around the common room as if he had ants in his pants.

      "What did you do?" I ask hesitantly. A shocked expression grows on Draco's face.

      "What makes you think I did it?" He replies in a offended tone.

      "Seriously? Do I have to answer that?" I reply. Crabbe continues to run around the common room at an alarmingly fast pace, with most of Slytherin laughing their heads off, until... BAM. He ran directly into a shut door, and knocked himself out. Draco, Zabini, Parkinson, Goyle and I all get up quickly to go check on him. We make a circle around his unconscious body and all lean over to inspect the damage he did to his head (not that it would make much of a difference to his grades or life in general).

      "We should probably take him to Madame Pomfrey, just as a precaution." Pansy suggests. We all nod in response.

  Draco and I stood at the end of Crabbe's bed in the infirmary, as the other three informed Madame Pompfrey as to what had happened.

      "What and why did you do it?" I quizzed Draco in a whispered tone.

      "Do what?" Draco replied back casually.

      "Don't be cocky and play dumb what the hell did you do!" I ask getting slightly irritated with him.

      "It just added a harmless potion to the largest tart as a joke." He whispered back.

      "Yeah!" I replied sarcastically, "a completely harmless potion that ended with your friend being in the infirmary!"

      "Hey! hey! Calm down a little! I did it for you y'know." He replied, with a side smirk forming.

      "In what way does this benefit me in the slightest?" I ask back, crossing my arms and showing my very unamused state of mind visually on my face.

      "I was pwotecting you fwrom the scarwee fat kid that has a crwush on you." He said in a baby voice, while squeezing my cheeks.

      "Oh hands off, you wuss," I say shoving Draco away, "I wish you would just man-up and ask me out already, rather than trying to scare off other people that fancied me." I immediately clamp my hand over my mouth, I was definitely not meant to say that. Draco's eyes widened and he tried to hide his blushing cheeks with a bewildered look on his face.

      "Don't play dumb," I say, "Pansy told me your and Crabbe's little secret weeks ago." Draco dropped his act and returned to his same old self.

      "I'm going to kill her!" He said under his breath.

      "Well you may have killed a different friend accidentally!" I snap.

      "Don't overreact!" He laughed, standing behind me while resting his chin on my shoulder and shaking his arms around my waist, once again pulling me closer.

      "I'm not over reacting! You're just being an irresponsible fool." I reply.

      "Well I guess I'm your irresponsible fool then." He replies, leaving a smile on my face.

Would you use amorentia, the love potion, on someone you truly love or would you not ? I feel like there's many views on this and it's intriguing.

My case against Amorentia conception

Okay, there is a shit ton and I mean a shit ton of arguments against my rationale but here we go:

*deep breath*

I believe that amorentia does NOT cause Tom Riddle to have the lack of ability to love. I think it's a magical plot grabber.

What I think is truly the case against Tom Riddle being loveless is the fact that, I don't know, he was never shown love in a physical or emotional capacity. Think about it, Merope died right after giving birth to him, couldn't smile at him couldn't even hold him.

Point 2: He grew up in a muggle orphanage in the early 20th century in lower class London. He had abilities that no one else seemed to possess instantly making him an outcast in an environment of outcasts.

Point3: By the time Tom is 11, he's already developed a thick skin. He has no family, no friends, and that is completely normal to him. The first person to not see him as a freak is Albus Dumbledore who treats him with extreme caution and contempt. When Tom gets excited at meeting someone like him (a wizard!) He tells him yeah I can make people hurt who are mean to me and I can talk to snakes! Dumbledore instantly labels him as a future dark wizard and not a child who not only grew up ignorant to what he is but a child who again has been an outcast since his unfortunate birth.

Point 4: After meeting Dumbledore, Tom Riddle realizes he will always be an outsider and instead of seeing that as a handicap he sees it as validation.

Point 5: he was only accepted at Hogwarts during the school year, as soon as summer rolled around he was forced to return to the muggle orphanage he grew up in and mind you at this point WW2 has started and that's not a good environment for even the sanest child, let alone a child/young adult with sociopathic tendencies.

I could go on but what are your thoughts? I'm curious to hear points from both sides in a healthy critical manner!

Y/N’s P.O.V:

  Disappointingly, it turned out that what everyone had hoped was the start of an exciting fight, was actually just the sound of a first year falling down the stairs, creating a domino effect and causing everyone else to fall down them also. Admittedly it was funny, just not quite the first-class banter that everyone had wanted.

  It was getting nearer and nearer to the feast and Pansy and her secret spy squad had seemed to have emerge from their (secret) hideout - which was an old broom cupboard. I returned my attention to the article I was reading about in the Daily Prophet, until I was disturbed by the screech of what seemed to be an owl. I put down the newspaper and looked up to find, none other than Malfoy with a bouquet of black flowers in front of Pansy's face. She had her hands clasped over her mouth in surprise (she shouldn't be she has been expecting it for the last week) and she began to do a weird jiggily-joggy-step-excitement-thing. Then like an ungrateful child on Christmas she viciously snatched the flowers out of Malfoy's hand and pushed them into the chest of one of her squad members, who was standing just behind her. Shortly after that she lunged herself at poor Malfoy and began to snog the face off him. The sight of this immediately made everyone scurry back to their dorms quicker than ever. 

      "Will you two stop with the fucking PDA already," I said interrupting their.... well I don't think you could actually call it a make out session, it was more like a 'Pansy the vacuum cleaner sees a speck of dust on Malfoy's lips' performance. Pansy detached her lips from Malfoy's very sore looking ones and turned to face me. 

      "No I will not stop with the fucking PDA considering that this is my boyfriend not yours, so I will not take orders from you, and it is our one year anniversary." She said in what, I think, she thought was a clever tone, although it came out dumber than expected.

       "Well, despite how sweet that it is, I am going to have to ask you to stop it. It's hurting my eyes." I retort back, certainly not a good come back, but a come back nonetheless. Pansy opened her mouth to speak, when Malfoy stopped her.

       "Will you girls chill. Geez.." he said rolling his eyes in unbelief, "come on P, we can go up to my room." Malfoy says leading her away, what a pair of bastards.

       "It is tradition that the hosting school holds a Yule Ball in celebration of the Triwizard Tournament," began Professor McGonagall, "and seeing as all of you are useless in this area. I have taken it upon myself to teach everyone... in every house, 4th year and above how to dance." She gave a stern look to Filch who was fiddling with a large gramophone, he then fiddled with some pin and very, very, very old classical music began to hum out of the gramophone. Sighs could be heard from the whole of Slytherin house as we sat along the edges of an classroom. McGonagall began to tell us how Ravenclaw did very well when it learning the traditional dance, and that she expected no less from us. As she called us all to her feet, with no surprises Pansy came trotting like a fat horse over to Malfoy, who had decided to sit next to you for once. It was the beginning of December and after all the commotion that happened between us because of Pansy, Malfoy seemed to be trying slowly to make it back to being my friend. I, un-fooled by his attempts, still tried to ignore him and especially Pansy, wherever I went. However, it was beginning to get harder as the days went on, everything seemed to be going back to how they were before Pansygate. 

      "Draco, darling, may I have this dance," said Pansy interrupting me from my thoughts. 

      "Of course," Malfoy replied, leading Pansy onto the dance floor. I watched all the other couples join together, what if that was me and Malfoy not him and Pansy? That moment I looked up to see Blaise in front of me holding out his hand. 

      "Considering someone has stolen your boyfriend," he began saying, as I took his hand and stood up and we started attempting to dance, "you are acting very calm." 

      "Blaise, are you serious?! At what point was Malfoy my boyfriend?" I asked astounded by his assumption. 

       "Please don't tell me you don't know?" He asked faced covered with genuine shock and disbelief. I furrowed my eyebrows. 

       "Know what, it's just Malfoy what don't I know about him?" I asked, now intrigued to what he clearly knows and most probably everyone else except me. Blaise swallowed and looked around to make sure no one was caring about our conversation. However he seemed to be searching for someone around the room, suddenly he stopped... I followed his gaze and nonetheless he was staring at Malfoy. 

       "Blaise?" I asked again shaking him out from his daydreaming at Malfoy. 

       "I don't know if I should tell you." He said quietly looking down at his feet.

         "You can't not tell me now!" I whisper yelled at him, trying not to attract lots of attention. 

       "It's about Draco....you know last year when he asked Pansy out?" He began, I nodded remembering the awful event. "Well he was actually going to ask you out on a proper date. To be honest it was rather confusing the whole thing between you three. Nobody really..."

      "Us three!?" I interrupted, "who is this third person?"

      "Pansy." He said bluntly as if it was clear as a crystal.  

      "What the fuck does Pansy have to do with it?" I asked a little too loud, causing a few heads to turn in our direction. 

      "Please don't tell me you don't know about that either!" Blaise said with slight tone of annoyance. 

      "Does this sound like someone who knows what the hell is going on." I sassed back. Blaise let out a breath and continued explaining. 

      "Right, I'll start from the beginning seeing as you are oblivious to everything. Basically for 4 years Draco has gone on about nothing but you and Pansy when it comes to talking about girls. He basically always made it seem like he was dating you both." Blaise said. 

      "Why the hell did he do that?" You asked very quietly, now carefully watching McGonagall show us a new step to practise. 

      "To keep up his bad-boy persona." Blair replied in my ear, "but only I know the real truth." 

      "Which is?" I asked, now attempting to copy the new dance McGonagall just showed us. 

      "He never liked Pansy. It was always you, he just used Pansy as a cover up, he just wanted to keep his feelings about you as secret as possible. The Slytherin Prince couldn't be known for being sappy over one girl now could he?" Blaise explained. I was speechless. 

      "So you're saying the Draco Malfoy loves me."

      "Yep. That's why he asked you to Hogsmead and then when he came back, he said that, you said something along the lines of 'this isn't a date though,' apparently he didn't take that very well. That's why he then improvised and asked Pansy out to cover his tracks so no one would make fun of him for being rejected. And though he never exactly used those word while conscious. I have heard him say things in his sleep such as 'luwuv you'," Blaise replied. 

      "So now you're saying that unconscious Malfoy loves me?" I questioned. 

      "No he definitely loves you consciously. It's pretty obvious pretty much the whole school knows, I'm surprised you didn't know about any of it." Blaise said calmly. The whole the school! The whole school! How the hell does the whole school know and I don't realise a thing. Surely this can't be happening. I was so confused beyond my whole existence. Why would Malfoy like me out of everyone? And if he did love me why was he off snogging Pansy for gods sake?

        "You can't tell anyone I told you this though, Y/N." Blaise said interrupting me from my thoughts. 

      "Why would it matter if the whole school knows?" I asked now getting stressed. My face started to flush and I could feel my eyes getting heavy with water. 

      "Promise me you won't tell anyone. No one at all." He said holding my shoulders firmly to stop me from moving on the spot nervously. I looked into his eyes. 

      "Of course." I replied. Who would I tell anyway?

Burnt Tip Orchids - Part Three

Y/N’s P.O.V:

  Dinner had just finished and I began making my way to the library in an attempt to try and work out the name of the plant that I smelt earlier in potions. I heard the loud clumsy sound of Draco's feet running behind me.

      "Where're... you goin'?" He asked or rather spluttered out, clearly not use to the exercise despite all of the quidditch he did. I continued walking and didn't feel like being kind to stop and let him catch his breath.

      "To the library." I state.

      "Oh good," He replies, "I.. uh needed to go there too." I give him an odd side glance wondering whether that was genuine or just Draco being the weird Draco that I had know since I was little.

      "Great hippogriff how many bloody flower books does one library need. And in the lords name you'd think that they'd have a section for Flowers of England rather than a section on Flowers of the Average Malaysian Garden." I state to Draco who didn't appear to be paying any attention to what I was saying. I was getting annoyed as we (... well, I) had been looking for a good hour now for any book that would help me identify the flower I had smelt, "I mean.. Merlin's beard who even gives a damn about flowers in the first place?!"

      "My mother cares a great deal about flowers. She's getting very annoyed at the moment, the new house elf keeps messing up the flower beds on the pathway to the lake." Draco says. I turn to look at him. He was sitting on top of a nearby table gazing in my direction; the arm that was supporting his head carefully balanced on his knee.

      "And what am I meant to do with that informa..." I stop mid-sentence. Draco looked at me slightly perplexed and worried.

      "Y/N/N?" He said getting up and waving his hand in front of my eyes, "you good?" I swallow.

      "Yep." I let out sheepishly, "just realised something." I speak quietly not entirely sure whether I should talk out loud. I composed myself. "Uhh Draco, do you have any idea what that flowery scent you smelt was?" I ask trying not to sound suspicious.

      "I uhh think it was some type of orchard my mother has outside the manor, you know in the meadow. I can never remember what it is called though. Burnt something-or-other." He says.

      "Burnt tip orchids." I state. He looked directly into my eyes.

      "Yea that's it!" He confirms, "how'd you realise that? Did you finally find a book."

      "No, it's because it's what I smelt too." I say,  "What you said just reminded me."

      "Haha, that's cute. Us two. Smelling the same thing." He says chuckling and wrapping an arm around me, giving me a squeeze before pulling a vibrant green apple out of his trouser pocket and taking a large bite. I pull away and sit down at the table Draco was previously perched on top of and think. Salazar's rotting feet, contaminated cauldrons and now burnt tip orchids. What in Godric's name was wrong with me. Then it hits me, something that Draco had said a while ago. Maybe it wasn't the actual scent but more the places the smell occurred, or was that - in muggle terms - a bit of a stretch?

      "The world always has had a funny way of telling me things." I mutter to myself.

      "What?" Draco asks, drawing his attention away from his apple.

      "Nothing, don't worry." I reply quickly. So what's so special about these places then? A used Potion's Classroom cauldron isn't exactly somewhere I hang out with my friends is it? I guess I do usually hang out in the common room with the gang which would partially explain the rotting feet smell, but that doesn't exactly explain why I'm attracted to it. That means I'm left with the burnt tip orchids, the only place I've been that's had them is the manor. I knew the smell was familiar, but it was a long-lost-memory-type of familiar. Suddenly, I felt as though I was bought back 12 years, back to when I'd play outside for hours in the summer with Draco. Draco. Holy Slytherin. That can't be it. My mind is brought back to the day we were all teasing Crabbe, and how Draco had is arm wrapped almost around my shoulder and how he moved it the moment that Y/F/N addressed it - or was that me just reading into things too much? Surely I can't be in love with Draco? There's no way. He's so annoying! Although I can't deny he's rather handsome. No! This can't be it. It would make lots of sense though, I always have enjoyed sitting in Potion lessons... next to Draco, joking around and having fun. Then in the common room I'm almost always only a seat away from him.

      "Y/N/N are you alright, you've gone very pale?" Draco asked, drawing me out of my daydream. For (what I think is) the first time I notice his eyes appear to sparkle, even in the dim light of the library.

      "Yea... It's just that I think I'm in love with you." I say speaking my mind as usual, without actually realising what I said and whom I'm saying it to.

      "You think you're what?" Draco replies with an expression that I can only process and explain as complete shock horror.

      "Nothing." I reply as quickly as possible, gathering all the books I had collated running to a random shelf and carelessly dumping them. I hurried back, a different way to which I came, dodging Draco as he tried to talk to me. I swept up my cardigan from the table and started making my way out of the library, ignoring the calls of Draco who was edging ever nearer to me. Turning out of the large doors and making my way towards the stairs down to the dungeon I felt a hand latch onto my shoulder, bringing me to a halt.

      "What did you say." Draco said very siriusly. I looked into his eyes trying to find something that would help me decide whether I should repeat what I already know he heard or whether I should just blatantly deny it for the rest of eternity.

      "Nothing." I state as calmly as possible, going for the latter. Draco lets go of my shoulder rolling his eyes and running his hand through his hair distressingly.

      "Y/N, this isn't funny. What you said..." he began.

      "I didn't say anything." I interrupt, knowing perfectly well this won't get me out of the situation but going with it anyway.

      "Oh would you stop being so stubborn and just listen to me!" He almost shouts. This has me taken aback a bit. "I figured out what the amorentia was trying to tell me... and I'm guessing you've finally figured out yours too. It's not the places we smelt."

      "It's the people." we say in unison.

      "Well... person." I state quietly, looking down to fiddle with my hands.

      "I was just as confused as you about what I smelt. I mean, for goodness sake who's attracted to the Quidditch pitch! Other than perhaps that old crone Wood. But it wasn't the quidditch pitch. I realised it was the fact that at every game, as I was up there, I knew you were down in the stands - somewhere -  cheering me on." He says taking a step towards me, "Then in the Great Hall at dinner time, all of the hilarious, weird and quite frankly disturbing conversations we have had and hopefully continue to have. I wouldn't trade them for the world." I let out a little chuckle.

      "Me either." I reply.

      "So I'm going to ask you again," Draco said, bringing his hand to push a stand of my hair behind my ear, "What did you say?"

      "I said 'I think I'm in love with you'." I reply biting my bottom lip to suppress the smile forming, "but that's not true... because in reality I know I'm in love with you, and I have for a while I just haven't allowed myself to properly realise it." Draco brings his hand to the back of my neck pulling me in closer to him. I see his eyes flicker from my eyes down to my lips and back up. The ever shrinking space between us causes a breath to get caught in my throat. Our bodies now so close I think I can hear his heart hammering, or is that just mine?

      "Can I kiss you?" He whispers, so close to my lips I feel the vibrations of the words as they leave his mouth. Unable to string together an answer I simply nod my head, letting out the breath I was holding in. My eyes naturally flutter close and his lips softly meet mine staying there for a moment. He then moves away slowly, hand dropping from the back of my neck. I reopen my eyes to see him staring at my face intently.

      "Oh would you quit trying to be romantic." I say cheekily. I earn a quick giggle and eye roll from Draco before he leans back in again, only this time it's more forceful and passionate. I drop my cardigan on the floor and bring my arms up to wrap around Draco's neck pulling him closer into me, while his arms do the same by wrapping around my waist. I feel him smile into the kiss and I ask myself: can it get any better than this?
