Review: While I had a passing familiarity with Gorey’s work, I had never read a full collection and I enjoyed these dark little stories and story fragments immensely. That the stories have no real conclusion is simultaneously frustrating and captivating, making them feel like slices of a darker world that is only half revealed on these pages. The illustrations are delicate and well-done, the enigmatic, hollow-eyed figures an unsettling but effective counterpoint to the almost sing-song text.
