Unpopular opinion but I loved Svetlana.
Don’t get me wrong, she did some f-ed up shit but she was also great and a badass a lot of the times. She helped Kev and V with a lot of things like the Alibi and the kids and maybe even them as a couple. Then they either got bored or she did one step wrong and they just turned completely on her. All that woman did was trying to get out of the shithole her life was and the stereotype expected from her. Also I think she did something for or impacted more or less everyone in the series.
Kinda sad her storyline ends abruptly and we didn’t get to see the wedding but at least she and her kid got out of what was starting tobecome an abusive environment.
(Stole your ss of her with Liam 😭)
Kids like svetlana and she likes them as well, her instincts as a mother have always been sharp.
But she’s so confident, or at least makes it seem like she is confident around other people, and is ok with talking about what she does for work.
“ you don’t realize God give you an ATM machine between your legs”
This allows Debbie to be comfortable to talk to her and ask for advice.
She has a very motherly and big sister vibe about her and is always ok with helping people.
Even with a baby in her arms lmao.
And I think she would be good at running a daycare - which seems far fetched but she reminds me of Debbie as a mother.
Both of them grew up badly and both are great mothers and, Debbie ran a daycare as a child and was good at it.
Svetlana obviously has a connection with kids, I mean kev handed one of the girls to this strange woman who looked nothing like Veronica and baby was ok with it. No complaints. Svet even fed her.
Debbie and svetlana are both similar mothers and this mixed with how svetlana treated the twins (plus Liam and yev) I think she would enjoy working at a daycare. At least for a few months.
This just might be very stupid and something svetlana would hate and you probably don’t agree with it lol - but again, I wanted to know if you had anything to add to this idea and the points I made about svet in the beginning.
This is something that doesn’t get talked about enough, I think. Svetlana doesn’t just love Yevgeny— she genuinely cares about other people’s kids, too. And they seem to like her in return.
I think the first positive thing that anyone says about Svetlana on the show comes from Debbie in S5, when she’s talking to Fiona or V and she goes, “she’s great with kids”, or something along those lines. I always appreciate it when one of the characters acknowledges something positive about Svetlana that has nothing to do with her sexuality, and that quote is one of my favorites because it’s not where anyone’s mind goes when they think about Svetlana but she really is a natural with kids. Those maternal instincts are robust.
I’ve been meaning to talk about this in greater detail, but I think Svetlana’s confidence is genuine. We’re never given any indication that it isn’t. She strikes me as someone who put in the work to accept herself as she is and feel comfortable in her own skin and actually got there. People were constantly looking down on her and trying to make her feel less than, but she never let it get to her. Nor did she believe any of the ugly things they said to her.
Svetlana knows who she is and she’s not ashamed of where she’s been. I think it’s obvious to anyone who meets her how self-assured she is. She’s never trying too hard. This sort of attitude can inspire jealousy, as I believe it did with Fiona, but it can also lead other people to feel at ease around you. This is what I imagine led Debbie to ask her for advice. We see how comfortable Debbie is around Svetlana and that’s a big indicator of how helpful and approachable Svetlana can be.
I love that you included the scene where she pulls Tommy’s rotted tooth out because I always mean to mention it but forget to.
I don’t think her running a daycare is far-fetched at all. She likes and is good with kids. And she’s very responsible. I didn’t even consider how whichever twin Kev handed her at the park didn’t cry when Svetlana took her, or how Svetlana was able to feed her without any trouble. That’s a great observation.
I agree with all of the Svet/Debbie similarities and parallels. I wish we would have gotten more scenes between them because my gut tells me that Svet saw some of her younger self in Debbie. I love how there was never any judgment whatsoever between them, just honesty and a sincere desire to extend some help. That’s such a rare thing on Shameless, especially between two women.
It’s not stupid at all, and I certainly don’t disagree. I think you’re right on the money. I have a list of jobs that I think Svetlana would be good at in my drafts and kindergarten teacher is one of them. It’s what she pretended she was when she was a surrogate and it got me thinking. Daycare is very similar, so we’re on the same page. She has all of the skills for it and she genuinely likes kids, so she wouldn’t just be good at it but enjoy it as well.
so I decided to pull a degrassi next gen/ rugrats all grown up and draw the Gallagher/Milkovich/Ball kids 15 years in the future🔮✨💭 I decided to include Liam because he’d be in their age group, and my OC Moni because at this point she’s part of the family in my mind 💕

THE BLACK DRESS REACHED A MID-THIGH REGION ON YOU. No one had warned foolish Phillip you would be in attendance; he could only be upset with himself. How could he think you would miss Ian and Mickey's wedding because of your messy history? He lingers by the bathroom door, waiting for Tami inside, and Fred sleeps with ease in his carriage. The glances he sends your way are not subtle, but the way the rest of the Gallaghers flock around you creates a smokescreen for Phillip. You dote on Liam as you always had since he was brought home.
"Oh, don't cry, Liam. Trust me, you'll get used to Frank. He sucks, but he's what you got," Swaying with consistent bounces, Fiona manages the mess that is the kitchen. As she calls out to you asking if you would like pancakes, the grumbling of Lip tells you Ian made it to the bathroom first. "Just one, please!"
"Mom on a bender again?" Lip questions as Liam calms in your arms. You laugh carelessly, questioning what else your mother was known for. "You always have a place here (Y/n)."
"Thanks, Lip."
Oh, how times have changed; Phillip struggles to pinpoint the vague familiarity. The manicured nails and waxed eyebrows are obvious indicators, but tension sits on his neck as he studies you. You scan the room carefully as you listen to Debbie ramble on. Eyes locked on each other, the knowing stare holds an intimacy neither of you dare to reach out to. The moment so intense, Phillip fails to notice as Kevin joins his side.
"(Y/n) is doing well for herself. You two have been playing the silent game for a while now," Kevin points out, but Phillip does not break his glassy-eyed stare. It takes Tami saying his name three times before his attention averts, and you turn back to Debbie and now Veronica speaking to you. Phillip offers the mother of his child default responses as his mind lies shackled to the past. He can barely remember when your friendship took a turn into dating, let him tell it, the two of you had always been together in that way. Hadn't you?
Prom was stupid. You expressed this several times throughout the weeks leading up to it. Everyone noted your outward disinterest, but Phillip still found himself on your doorstep a week before. Hands in his pockets as he rocked from the tips of his toes to the heel of his feet.
"Hey uh—maybe we should go to that stupid dance? I could steal a tux, you could steal a pretty dress, I don't know, maybe it could be fun?" Shrugging his shoulders, you lean on your door frame. The quiet house made the silence between the two of you seem even louder.
"Am I mistaken, or is Phillip Gallagher asking me to Prom?" A teasing smile on your lips as he muttered for you to fuck off. "Want to come inside?"
"Yeah."
The two of you did end up going to Prom together. Fiona and Veronica helped you pick a dress, keeping the tag on so afterward you all could return it. Phillip did just as he said he would; he stole a tux from one of the many crap stores in the city. Somehow managing to make a cheap tux look good. The night ended with the two of you smoking weed in his backyard. For both of you, it's challenging to figure out how something so good soured so rapidly at once. No matter how good it was it could never change the fact that Phillip was a Gallagher.
"Lip, I think you should slow down with the drinking. You keep this up; you're going to get kicked out of school," You spoke cautiously as the red hues in his face spoke volumes of his inebriation. Even without it, the acrid smell filled your tiny dorm room. Your roommate Samantha scoffed before she made a swift exit, in which Phillip made a snarky comment just to vex her.
"Oh my god, we get it! So little miss (Y/n) got into college, and now she's too good for so usual Southside mischief," A dry chuckle left his throat as he stumbled by leaning on his right leg too much. You watched as he blinked several times but still somehow managed to convince himself he was alright.
"You know that's not true. If anyone could get out of Southside Lip, it's you. You can do better; we can do better," Now, on your feet, you took both his hands in your own, near pleading for him to hear you. He turned his head just slightly to meet your gaze; the hopeful look made his shoulders fall. After a loud huff, he moved around your dorm as if it was his own. In your shared mini-fridge, he took one of your water bottles before returning to your bed. Backs against the wall, the silence held much uncertainty. Phillips' unpredictable self-sabotaging was taking an evident strain on your relationship.
"You're right. We gotta graduate and get some good jobs. I'm gonna do better," He muttered, head hanging, but you took his one hand. Your pointer finger traces little shapes on his palm as you visibly ease.
"Get our own little house in the Southside. We could even give Liam his own room at our place or something."
Phillip knew it was all naive, the dream of a better life with you. As if any Gallagher could ever keep something that good in their lives for long. Too busy glancing at you, it did not take long for Tami to catch sight of where his eyes kept wandering to. You now stand in the middle of the floor, dancing with Amy and Gemma. The two keep you on your toes as the room fills with your infectious laughter.
"That's (Y/n), right? Your best friend from the pictures," Tami's curiosity appears genuine as her eyebrows are pulled knit. How could she not know of you? Whether Frank references you in his drunken state or the rest of the Gallaghers using you as the topic to piss off their older brother in spats.
"Uh yeah—it's been a while. We had a pretty big fight," Anxiety emits off of him in deep waves. Tami has no chance to ask about his well-being as you bravely approach the two.
"Hi, uh, I hope I'm not interrupting anything?" You offer a warm smile with your hands clasped in front of you. Phillip just stares at you as if all words have left his vocabulary. Tami smiles, introducing herself and confirming you were not interrupting. "It's very nice to meet you; I'm a family friend—(Y/n) (L/n). I heard that you brought the newest Gallagher?"
"Yeah, we did," Tami smiles, stepping back for you to see Freddie; he brings his tiny finger to his mouth in his sleep. Phillip takes in a wavering breath as his chest tightens, his eyes focus on your reaction. A small gasp in awe monopolizes your entirety.
"He's so beautiful," Your eyes water as a smile takes over your features, and you glance over at Phillip. A breath he did not realize he was holding releases in relief. The glint in your eyes as you look at him is genuine and whole. "You did this. You should be so proud of yourself, Lip, seriously."
"You cannot just show up and act like this! Lip, seriously!" Screaming at the top of your lungs, campus security watched the two of you warily in the parking lot. Phillip stormed past the desk without waiting for approval to go up. Barely supporting his weight as he stumbled through the halls of your dormitory. The desk receptionist not only called you but security, and he was escorted out.
"Relax, it's fine—I'm fine. I got expelled anyway," He slurred, blinking endlessly as he was unable to see the hostile glare or how you clenched your fists. At the time, you did not know it, but all that anger was just disappointment. Your entire body shook as it all dissolved into salty tears. Phillip reached forward to pull you into a hug, but you tugged away, shaking your head. Other residents watched avidly from their windows or other spots in the vicinity.
"I—um" A heavy tension sat between your eyes as adrenaline flooded your senses. The ache in your chest was screaming for you not to speak, overpowered by the knowledge in your mind of how Phillip would continue. "Please leave. I don't want to see you anymore."
"(Y/n) wait!" Stumbling after you toward the dormitory, the security guard stopped him from following you inside. All his attempts to speak with you after that night only worsened the decaying relationship. Subsequently, you blocked his number and successfully stayed in contact with the other Gallaghers from time to time.
"How have you been?" Finally able to form a comprehensive question, he stares at you as if you will disappear if he looks away. Your eyes bounce between Phillip, Tami, and Freddie as you talk about being in your last year of graduate school. The only people in attendance at your undergraduate graduation were Kevin, Veronica, and Liam.
"That's fucking awesome (Y/n)," Phillip says, and the two of you ramble on about your dreams. He could recall every detail, no matter how small. One more year, and you will work with a master's degree in Social Work at the county's children and youth services. Hopefully, eventually, you will have enough to start your own agency and buy a house on the south side.
"Wow, you want to save kids, and I'm doing hair," Tami jokes, laughing as you assure her that hairdressers can be lifesavers as well. You excuse yourself to the bathroom, and Tami watches how Phillip watches you. Her smile falls, and she chews on the inside of her lip, waiting for him to notice her. Instead, Tami's shoulders fall with a loud huff stealing his gaze. "You guys were more than friends, weren't you?"
Scratching the back of his neck, he pauses before nodding his head. A scoff leaves her lips as she nods to herself. He watches her warily, "What?"
"Nothing, Lip. I'm gonna get some air," Her exit simultaneous with your own from the bathroom. Phillip stares at Freddie, who now coos lightly up at his father. You look at the doors where Tami disappeared to and then a defeated Phillip.
"Want to talk about it? I hope I'm not the cause of any tension. I would never do anything to jeopardize your family," You reassure but Phillip chuckles, muttering it is more of an in-house issue. Nodding your head, silence follows for a few seconds before he starts detailing Tami wanting to move and take Fred with her.
"I'm just trying to do right by them. Make them proud," He explains, his sentence trailing for a second before looking from his son to your smiling face. "Make you proud."
"Lip—" The huff that accompanies his name is brought to a halt as he squares his shoulders. His gaze on you is intense, and the sound of your name on Lips cuts you off.
"I don't know if you read any of my texts back then or listened to my voicemails, but I meant everything I said in them."
"Come on (Y/n), you didn't mean that the other night. I fucked things up, I know, but come on. Same old Gallagher bullshit, right? Call me back, let's talk. I love you."
"Hey uh—could we talk, please. I just—I've been fucking everything up left and right. I really don't want to lose you. I love you, and I want to do right. You have to believe me. Please believe me. (Y/n) please."
"(Y/n) I know you don't trust me right now, and anything I say is gonna mean nothing to you—please. But, I promise I am going to get better and be the man you deserve. I love you. I love you more than I have ever loved anything in the world. Please."
"I've lost count of how many voicemails and text messages—hell, I even emailed you. I just want you to know that I am going to stop. I have a problem, so I'm gonna get help, okay. When I get better, I'll come look for you, and if you'll have me, I'll stay. You don't have to believe anything I say, but I'm begging you to believe this. I love you so much (Y/n)."
"Lip, listen. I read every text and email you sent me, and I listened to every single voicemail. For a while, I thought you'd show up one day sober, and then we'd fix things, but you didn't," Raising your shoulders and dropping them casually, you lean forward toward Freddie. His giggles bring a warm smile to your features.
Phillip watches you as his brain scrambles to provide you with an explanation. You look toward him with a sad smile. "It's okay, Lip. We're ancient history. You have something good here. Don't fuck it up."
You walk away from him toward Liam, who sits across the room. Phillip stops you halfway; he visibly struggles to choose his words carefully as you look back at him, "You're still always welcome with us Gallaghers."
"Trust me, I've known that for more than a decade," Your laugh is warm, and any feelings you may have about the situation hides well beneath the surface. Kevin rejoins Phillip on the quieter side of the party.
"You okay?" Kevin asks, and Phillip pauses before looking down at his son and then over at you. A scoff escapes him before he shakes his head with an ironic laugh. Kevin's eyebrows pull knit as he frowns at the sober Gallagher.
"Ever fuck up the second best thing that's ever happened to you?"
"At least you still have the first," Kevin suggests, and the two men focus on Freddie, who rests blissfully unaware of his fathers' heartbreak. The party goes on with you, avoiding the possibility of antagonizing Tami any further. At one point, you dance with Mickey, who teases you rather aggressively for your education and middle-class accomplishments. Most of you fail to notice Phillip’s relapse, his sip of the glass is slow and the battle between right and wrong haunts him. Even now in the face of everything he’s ever wanted he fails to fight off his demons, sipping the beverage quietly. At the end of the night, you catch Phillip alone before you go. Passing him the small slip of paper with your new number on it.
"If you, Tami, or Freddie ever need anything, please don't hesitate. If you're looking into moving, I have a friend in real estate. She could help you guys find a good deal if you want?" You hold your purse in front of you, hanging by your knees. Phillip stares at you with a smile that dares to come out of hiding. Instead, he lurches forward, pulling you into a tight hug; at first, you do not move, but slowly your arms snake under his arms and up around his upper back. You blink away the glossiness that builds in your eyes as you hold each other. “You always have me, okay. Even when you relapse.”
Your verbal admittance of knowing what previously resided in his cup is smooth. His shoulders fall before he nuzzles his face into your hair, "Thank you (Y/n)."
No bc I finished watching shameless about 2-3 days ago and it ended so abruptly and I was like wait that’s it?! They’ll never know how ****** felt?!!! And no one but ***** worried about h* in h* last moments :((
so here I am again rewatching it about to cry some more and experience Ian and mickeys love, Mickey abusement, lips downfall, Fiona’s struggle, Debbie’s horrible love life, Fiona’s heart breaks, Carl teen years/hormones 😟, Liam growing up, Frank’s struggling against alcoholism and lastly the Gallagher kids mom popping in and out of their life leaving them heartbroken each time.
It’s a crazy and heartbreaking ride but it’s all worth it in the end just to see them all together laughing and happy
