Coffee Shop AU

So I was reading today’s google doodle about Maria Reiche, the scientist who devoted her whole life to investigating these giant, ancient drawings in the Peruvian desert Nazca. She was still publishing books about it in her 90s. She was something of a Peruvian national treasure.

She was also in a relationship with a woman, Amy Meredith, who she met in her very own version of a coffee shop au - Amy Meredith owned a fashionable local coffee shop. That’s also how she encountered the historian Paul Kosok who introduced her to the strange line drawings that just enchanted her. She worked with him for 8 years and then after he left for New York she continued to work there... for the rest of her life.

It got me thinking! All these coffee shop aus we have where, except for romance, nothing much very pleasantly happens, they’ve got it all wrong. Well, no, they are lovely as they are but think of the possibilities! Cafes and bars are where things happen! You meet people there, you work there, have meetings and gatherings and shows there - have conversations that change you.

Years On Part V: Restless by Amy Meredith (2011)

Foreword: Sorry that most of these are seeming to be from 2011, I do have older stuff that I will get into, especially 2006 releases. Amy Meredith were an Australian Pop Punk band, Restless was their debut album, and let's just say I still get up and dance to this album on a regular basis. Review: Restless was released in a time where I was into Pop Punk (Short Stack, P!ATD, etc.) but this release has really stuck with me, mainly because it helped me through some tough times in later years. Restless is full of flare and was really what I needed after I had thrashed Kisschasy for a year or so, it was a relief to find another release that was personal and deep at times but still so upbeat and positive. It's not something I can really pick a favourite from because it's such a great album as a whole that to single out a track wouldn't feel appropriate. It's consistent enough to merit being on repeat and blasting on a stereo. The majority of tracks are what you'd call "love songs" (although Lying and Spin Me Around are about cheating). Afterword: After Restless, Amy Meredith went indie and released one more album and then seemed to have vanished as a band, but at least their legacy is still alive. Despite their name, Amy Meredith are an all male band, they never discussed (as far as I know) as to why they chose the name, so that mystery remains unsolved. 4.5/5
