@twwpride day 8 — one night stand
Guess I didn't think it through
Amy/Andy ~~ Explicit ~~ 1400 words
"Andy’s never been good at having one night stands. When her husband cheats on her, she figures it’s never too late to pick up a new skill and give it another try. Amy’s more than willing."
Andrea Wyatt x Amelia Gardner Moodboard
A quick moodboard to celebrate the first day of @tww-femslashfeb !!
1, 3, and 5 for Andy/Amy?
Ship development questions!
1. What appeals you to the ship?
I love both of these women individually and I think they’d have a lot to talk about regardless of any romantic potential? They’re both these side characters almost solely tied to their respective main male guy (Amy gets more for a bit! I love when she works with Abbey! Andy really is just completely tied to Toby in every single scene she’s in. Even the slight moment in Gaza is ultimately just to give Toby some angst and then be forgotten), and I think it’d be fun to see them talk to any woman at all and NOT have that conversation be about furthering their respective man’s plotline. (Like, it wouldn’t even be a bad thing if the conversation was still about those men but just… not the way Andy and CJ’s scene is just about Toby’s plot?) But as characters, to, they’re both these very opinionated women who love the Democratic party and love to upset the key Democratic operatives because they’re always gonna be a little to the left of the administration and they’re never gonna try that hard to avoid controversy, and they both have a unique perspective on the Bartlet administration through their political position and their personal tie to the administration. They’d have a lot to talk about! And I think they could respect these things in each other!
3. What do they like about one another?
That fighter’s spirit. Andy deeply admires the way Amy is always down to fight someone else’s political battle, but all in the name and out of love for the Democratic party and its underdogs (namely its women). The fact that Amy canonically helped out with Will’s dead guy campaign, and is known for helping dozens of Congresswomen through debate prep? Andy loves that shit. Amy, in turn, loves how willing Andy is as a politician to put herself out on the frontlines of a fight. While Amy doesn’t ever want to have children, and motherhood has never appealed to her, she is a fierce supporter of the working mom’s plight and she really admires Andy for using her actual physical body and her pregnancy to bring that fight to the forefront. She loves that Andy takes all the criticism of her choices and uses it to invite a lawsuit, she loves how determined Andy is to do it all when both sides of the aisle are telling her to pick something.
5. What type of dynamic do you see them having?
Nothing longterm, but something genuine all the same. It’s a relationship, not a fling per se, just not a relationship either of them thinks will last. And that does come back to Andy wanting or having kids, and Amy not wanting that. There are characters like CJ or Angela or maybe even Kate who don’t have kids in canon and might not be thinking about kids per se, but would genuinely enjoy becoming a stepmother to Andy’s kids. Amy is not that person, she’s just not, and Andy knows that. Which is a choice Andy completely supports, but also means that they can’t be together longterm. I do think Andy is very strict about not actually settling down with someone who doesn’t want to be a parent. Especially after the twins, it’s never a negotiable; if you want to date Andy, you have to be a parent to her twins. She’s not gonna have three adults in their lives and only one actual present parent, she’s not doing it.
I like to imagine they sleep together at different points during the show, and maybe have a few months to a year and a half or so of dating more officially, maybe between the divorce and Andy doing the transfer for the twins? Or this never quite relationship but still a connection through the years. Amy can be the person Andy sleeps with after the divorce, and the person she calls when she’s a few months postpartum and wants to but is scared to have sex again because it’s complicated when she’s single too, and someone she spends a lot of time with during the leak aftermath when most other politicians can’t be seen with her and Amy’s never given a damn about Andy’s fluctuating reputation.
Love your fandom asks! 4, 7, 9, 14?
4: say something nice about a ship you don’t ship
The few CJ/Toby fics I have read are all **so* well written! And I think they do have really good chemistry, just in a platonic way imo.
7: your favourite tropes to read/write/draw
i’m always going to be an enemies to lovers girl. its just so good. and almost every ship will have some form of enemies to lovers fic, so its slowly crept its way up to my favourite over time! and also anything where a character is just put through it. its vague but really just emotionally torturing a character.
9: a ship that isn’t your OTP but that you enjoy
i don’t really have an OTP (i love so many ships equally) but i’d say sam/josh. i dont ship them but i dont not ship them? but some of the fics ive read about them. SO good.
14: the ship that always makes you smile
