This originally dropped back in 2017 and sold out, unsurprisingly. I was previously unaware of her talent and this record, in general, and took my time really getting inside of it before posting. The press-kit info mentions comparisons to Alabama Shakes and Rhiannon Giddens and I hear it, but I also picked up some vibes from Tracy Chapman at her boldest vocal performance. Amythyst's voice is a force to be reckoned with and her guitar work alongside her super talented band's instrumentation makes this record a real blast to listen to. If you've ever gotten into Soulstep releases, you'll know the name fits...it's soulful, it's got some bluesy edge, and it's expertly produced. Want to know something else awesome? A couple of the tracks were mixed by my guitar idol Kurt Ballou from none other than Converge! That said, don't expect technical metal from this one, but if you follow his production credits you'll know that he absolutely knows what he's doing being the mixing board and if you love his style, you'll be in for a treat here too.
