Its a story told from several different perspectives all through narrative poem! I love how different every chapter is, all the different styles and perspectives of the characters, all the different challenges each individual character has, how it forms together to create one world that feels so real and messy and human.) You kiss her for the first time in months, and she is silent. When you pull back, her eyes doesn’t flutter the way they used to, her hands doesn’t pull on the lapels of your shirt for a second helping like they did before - no, the girl you just kissed isn’t the same girl you kissed months prior, and that’s what hurts the most: That she has her same face but not her smile.

When you pull away to cup her cheek, her eyes stare at the floor. She doesn’t meet your gaze, not even for a second. She hasn’t been able to make eye contact with anyone or anything, but her shoelaces for months, and you wonder why she stares down when she has the whole world to look forward to.

You whisper her name, hoping to catch just a semblance of her in there. There has be to something - just something that is still undeniably Korra in the empty shell that Zaheer stole, took, and left behind. But, when she doesn’t respond to her name anymore, your body droops into her. Your fingers curl into her loose, fitting pajama shirt and bottoms, and instead of the sea, you smell the pungent smell of bandages drenched in ointment and alcohol. And you know she believes she doesn’t own that name anymore; that she’s not worthy of it.

You swallow your pride, grip the armrests of her wheelchair and whisper the three words you never erased from your lips or from your heart. You feel her body tense and shudder beneath your embrace, and you drop to your knees, minding her wobbling legs, as you shift into her chest and hold her to you. You repeat the three words. The three syllables. The eight letters. Over, and over again, until she is moving against you, her voice sticking together, and then onto your shirt, and into your lips. She doesn’t answer or return your words, but you know she means it too, just by the small yet real, upward pull of her lips.

You kiss her for the first time in months, and she is silent. And it’s enough.
