Seriously. I heard of an American article that called Nelson Mandela South Africa’s first African American president. Smh. African American is not a blanket term for all black people and it’s annoying that this has to be said

Kind of have a question about this, just adding on to it. I am Canadian and white, but my entire family is South African and I was the first of my family to be born in Canada (my older siblings were born in SA). I've always wondered if it was okay to say that I'm "African Canadian" even though I'm referring to my heritage and not my race? I know you're probably not experts but I just don't want to offend anyone or undermine an entire race's identity by being white and using the label "African Canadian".
