⚠️Spoiler Alert - Queen of Shadows (book 5 of TOG)
Okay, guys, I am currently reading Tower of Dawn, but today I was remembering something in Queen of Shadows.
Chapters 59 and 60 is when Manon and Aelin met and were in a fight. I remember being very disappointed by the whole thing. Aelin defeated Manon very easily, in my opinion. Now let's analyze this:
Aelin, a 19 year old "human" girl (without magic at that point).
Manon an Ironteeth Blackbeak witch, over 100 years old.
Both have had heavy training and were bred to be lethal killers. We all know that Aelin is powerful, strong, lethal, intelligent, etc etc etc ..... But so is Manon.
And I feel that SJM simply forgot or chose to leave out the fact that Manon had the same hard and tough training that Aelin had, and even more so because she had 100 years more training. I don't erase the fact that Aelin is very good at fighting, but honestly? That fight was... I don't even have the words to describe it.
Did it take making Manon lose like that to prove that Aelin is skilled? I have no problem with Manon losing a fight, she is not invincible and although I love her, I am a realist. SJM wrote several comments about how well Manon fights, how she was kicking Aelin's ass and I think that was just her trying to "balance" and not have Manon lose in such a forced way.
I understand that Manon had to lose and honestly that's not a problem, but I had the impression that she was not her. Manon was what, unfocused? Underestimating her opponent? Blinded by anger and being smug? This seemed to me to run away from the character that Manon really is.
Anyway, this is just a thought of mine, this is not an "anti certain character" or "anti the author" post, this is my opinion regarding a scene where I thought Manon deserved a better fight.
Someone ought to do a Voltron Iron Giant au where one of the Paladins is Hogarth and Voltron is the iron giant.
Alec and Clary’s friendship is based of being extra and fucking block the traffic to look good and I think is beautiful
My flame has yet to burn out, and until it does I will be true to myself, my family and my God.

And just like that... I lost my purpose.

Haha and I've caught up with the days I missed.
Who said I couldn't do that huh? (Oh wait it was me...) I proved me wrong!
