Climbing Perch or Climbing Gourami (Anabas testudineus), family Anabantidae, order Anabantiformes, Maharashtra, India
A common and very adaptable species found throughout South and Southeast Asia
Fishes of the order Anabantiformes are generally characterized by their ability to breathe air using a specialized organ called the labyrinth organ
The climbing gourami is especially well known for this, being able to survive out of water for several hours (some sources claim for up to 3 days). If the body of water they are living in dries up, they can crawl on land to find a new home.
Common as a food source and occasionally seen in the aquarium trade
