Sitting in a dinner hall in a table full of tipsy clones was not what you imagined you’d be doing when General Skywalker told you to pack your bag for the mission this morning. But here you are, in your home planet, eating delicacies you’d only dreamt of as a child.
Music bounces off the walls, not loud enough to hurt your ears, but definitely loud enough to make it hard to think. You look around, feeling a bit overwhelmed with the setting you are in. Usually, you wouldn’t be attending these sorts of things; your position as an engineer for the 501st allowed you to stand on the sidelines, focus on your job and nothing more. But this is a special mission. The meeting General Skywalker has is with none other than the head of foreign operations of your home world Elzu.
The small planet could have been as beautiful as Naboo, were it not for the exploitation of natural resources by the government. By the time Elzu joined the Republic, it was drastically divided. Those who had been part of the group exploiting the resources are still the ones in power now. The rest are left to fend for themselves, many immigrating to other planets in search of a better livelihood. Your parents were part of the latter group, taking you and your siblings to Coruscant when you were about 9 years old. Thanks to their sacrifice and hard work, you now have the job you have.
So when General Skywalker asked if you’d be willing to join him and the 501st to the meeting as a point person for all things Elzu, you were hesitant. Elzu held many bittersweet memories, and you’d only been back a handful of times since your family had left all those years ago. General Skywalker had sensed your hesitation, and asked if instead you could help by giving him a list of the customs of the planet. However, as you were writing the list, you thought back to all the ways Skywalker and the 501st had helped you get to where you are, and knew that the least you could do was help with the trip in person. Though now that you’re here, you’re starting to wish you’d just stuck to the list.
The boisterous laugh of Fives rips you from your thoughts. You blink a few times in an attempt to refocus on the present. You turn to look at Fives, who’s sitting at your table, in an attempt to see what he’s laughing at. When your eyes travel around the other clones in your table and settle on a rather flustered looking Dogma, you have an idea of what Five’s source of entertainment currently is.
In spite of your otherwise uncomfortable feelings, you can’t help but smile. It was rare that the clones of the 501st were so at ease while on a mission. Seeing them all gathered in the main dinner hall enjoying good food made you happy, especially knowing this type of mission would be one of a kind.
The eating and socializing continues, and though you converse with the clones around you, you mostly stay quiet. After deciding you’d had enough to eat, you excuse yourself and walk out of the dinner hall.
You hate to admit it, but the palace you’re currently in is gorgeous. The large and intricate structure was built from different Elzian resources, Elzian marble being the most predominant. As you mindlessly walk down the hallway, you stay close to the wall, the smooth walls leaving a cool sensation on your fingertips. You keep walking around, not really knowing where you intend on going. That is, until you spot a sliver of the night sky.
Your feet make their way to the landing deck on its own. It isn’t until you feel the cool night breeze on your skin that you realize just how hot it is inside. Letting out a breath you didn’t know you were holding, you step out onto the seemingly unused landing deck. You almost gasp at the sight; the height of the deck makes you feel as if you’re in the sky.
If there was one thing you’d always miss most about Elzu, it’s the sky. It’s easy to forget that there’s even a sky in Coruscant due to the endless bustle of traffic. But that isn’t the case here. No, here, the sky is clear, the stars densely decorating it to look like the most royal of sparkling gowns.
You take a seat directly on the landing deck, sprawling your legs out in front of you and placing your hands on the durasteel ground. Maker, you can almost reach out and touch the stars, pick them like the fruit of a tree, with how close they seem.
“Beautiful night.”
If you weren’t sitting, you would have jumped at the sudden voice behind you. However, as the initial shock leaves you, you recognize the voice, a deep honey voice you never get tired of hearing.
Footsteps approach you, and you can feel them under your palms. They stop as two white and blue armored legs appear next to you. Your eyes follow the legs up to their owner’s face, the brown skin and blonde hair of your favorite person making the feeling of a thousand pairs of wings erupt in your stomach.
“Rex.”
“How are you, nau?”
At the sound of his tone, you know he can tell you’re not feeling your best. You also know there’s no point in trying to convince him otherwise.
“I’m doing okay, given the circumstances,” you say.
Lightly dropping his helmet to his side, he takes a seat next to you. You look at him as he mimics the way you’re sitting, legs spread out in front of him, hands on either side of him. And honestly, you can’t help but admire just how beautiful he looks.
Your eyes move from where you see his legs brushing your own, landing instead on his face. You find him looking at you, concern etched onto his features.
“You know how I feel about this place, Rex. It doesn’t hold the best memories,” you finally say.
“I know,” he simply says.
He knows. Of course he knows. He knows because he’s been by your side when you’ve had a few too many drinks at 79’s and spilled all about your childhood hardships. He knows because he’s been by your side when you try to discreetly get information on how the less fortunate of Elzu are holding up with the war. He knows because he’s always been there, with you.
Relief washes over you when you realize you don’t have to explain all the feelings caused by being on Elzu. Bringing up your legs to hug them to your chest, you look up at the sky again, the smile from earlier returning.
“Have you ever heard of shooting stars?”
“Shooting stars?” At his question, you nod. “I haven’t, nau.”
“Well you’re in for a treat tonight.”
His brow raises, and a faint smile paints his face. “Is that right?”
You nod again. “Elzu is known for its shooting stars, sometimes called flying stars. The people of Elzu believe they’re the souls of beings who have passed all around the galaxy as they make their way to their final resting spot. Legend has it they grant wishes.”
Rex laughs lightly, not in a mocking way, but rather in a surprised way. For someone who’s usually surrounded by so many facts, Rex doesn’t expect you to be so invested in old tales.
“Hey, I’m being serious!” you say, a laugh coming out of you as well. “I used to make a wish every night when I was a kid.”
Rex won’t ask what you wished, you know that. He doesn’t want to impose, pour salt on the wound that is already being constantly poked at while being here in Elzu. But either way, you continue, part of you needing to tell him what you wished for all those years ago.
“I’d initially wish for childish things; a new toy or the chance to taste one of those many pastries they have inside. But then the guilt would creep in, and instead I’d wish for the star to bring my family and I stability. Not riches, those weren’t necessary, just stability. Food on the table, a roof over our heads, shoes on our feet. And the next night I’d do the same again: wish for something childish then scrap it for a worthwhile wish.”
As you finish, you don’t know what you expect Rex to say. You don’t know if you even expect him to say anything. And initially he doesn’t, he sits there next to you in silence looking up at the same sky you’d stare at endlessly as a child.
“Ca’tra.”
You turn to look at him, the word foreign to your ears. For the most part, you knew the phrases of his native Mando’a he’d speak around you. Nau, for example, was what he called you, a nickname of sorts. He’s told you it means light, a nod to the way you two initially met during a blackout on a ship you’d been working on, a flashlight in hand as you bumped in face first to his chest. But ca’tra you didn’t know, so you waited for him to continue.
“It means ‘night sky’,” he explains, and you make a mental note to add that to the list of Mando’a words you have written on your data pad. “I often gazed up at the night sky back in Kamino growing up. It brought me calm whenever I’d feel...uneasy.”
“Ca’tra.” You test the word in your mouth, hoping you pronounced it correctly. At his smile and nod, your heart blooms with pride.
“And though we have no word for shooting star, we do have ka’ra, which means stars.”
Another word to add to the list, you think.
Your eyes go back to the sky, and almost as if on queue, you see the flash of light that filled you with hope as a child.
“Look! A shooting star! Make a wish,” you say, closing your eyes to mentally make your own. You wish for progress in the war with as little casualties as possible, you wish for his safety. A whisper of a thought adds another part to the wish: I wish for Rex to stay by my side.
You open your eyes slowly, glancing over at Rex to see if he’s done with his wish. Only, you don’t find him with his eyes closed as you’d had them. He’s not even looking up at the sky. No, he’s looking at you.
For a split second, you forget how to breathe at the sight of his beautiful eyes on you. Taking a small breath, you speak.
“Did you make a wish?” You don’t intend for your voice to be a whisper, but with the way he’s looking at you, you don’t manage anything else.
Rex nods. “Yes, I did.”
You want to ask what it is, but know that the way wishes come true is by keeping them to yourself.
“Well,” you say, your hand seemingly moving on its own will as it lands on top of his. “I hope your wish comes true.”
“I hope so too,” he responds.
You turn back to look at the sky, your hand still on Rex’s. And maybe it’s the glass of Elzian wine you drank, or the fact that you’re looking up at the night sky you spent your whole childhood wishing under, or even the drunken state Rex causes you to be in regardless of the amount of alcohol in your system, but you think you know what Rex wished for. Well, you hope you know what he wished for.
As if to put your mind at ease and to confirm your thoughts all at once, Rex moves his hand so that he’s now holding yours. The cool feeling of the durasteel you both are sitting on makes for a sharp contrast to just how warm his hand feels on your own. Before you have time to process his actions, he hits you with another jolt of electricity when he softly squeezes your hand.
You don’t have to look at him to know he’s smiling, because you’re smiling too. You’re smiling the smile that only appears whenever Rex is with you, by your side, safe.
And as the two of you sit under the night sky, you don’t feel the guilt you’d expected to feel at the last addition to your wish. It’s a bit selfish, you admit, wishing for something exclusively for you. But you don’t, can’t feel guilt when all you feel is warm, kind love with Rex by your side.
When the next shooting star paints the sky, you once again wish for Rex to stay by your side, nothing more, nothing less.
Request: “Hello bb 😌🥰 I would like to request the prompts “why do you always think you have to do everything on your own?” and “I’ll walk you home.” with Luke Skywalker (baby Luke 🥺) please and thank you. Congrats on 100 followers! You really deserve it! 😘🤩” as requested by @acnini
Description: You’re used to doing things yourself, not liking to wait for others to help. It’s your way of dealing with the different feelings within you. But your feelings are soon put on full display before a certain Tatooine farm boy.
Word Count: ~3.2k
Warnings: mentions of mom being sick, mention of father passing away, some angst, tiiiiiiiny bit of my attempt at some spicyness 🌶, lots of fluff.
A/N: I’ve been wanting to write for Luke for so long so thank you Aileen for requesting for our baby Luke! Like you said, I love one (1) farm boy. I really like how it turned out, so I hope you all enjoy! I’m working on the other requests that have been sent in for my 100 follower celebration, so keep an eye out for those! Also, Aileen I’m happy I posted this today because you got your full time offer today!! Woo!! 🥳
The first thing that greets you every morning is the same: heat. Unending, dry heat that you’re sure is the result of the twin suns that decorate Tatooine’s sky. This morning, it’s not different, the heat hitting you in a wave as you become aware of your surroundings. The second constant of every morning for you is the cough. Similar to the heat, it is dry and unending, violently shaking the body of it’s victim. And it’s the sole perpetrator of your final and heaviest constant of every morning: worry.
Worry settles in you every morning, the frequency of it not making it any less heavy on your mind. Your mother is the sole family you have, and she’s sick, her health not improving as the days pass. Part of you wonders if it’s the rough conditions of Tatooine that prevent her recovery.
Getting up from your bed, you walk over to your mom’s room. She’s sitting up on her bed, hand over her mouth and she coughs once, twice, three times. Her eyes meet yours as you enter, and she tries her best to give you a comforting smile.
“Good morning, love,” she greets.
“Good morning, mom. How are you feeling?” You’re next to her at this point, your hand extended to help her get up.
“Ah, well same as always. Not better, but not worse, thank the stars.”
That‘s the thing about your mom, she always looks at the bright side. It helps you in a way, but never works to fully take away your worry.
“Here, let me help you to the kitchen so we can eat some breakfast,” you say. She takes a hold of your hand to get up, then let’s go.
“I’m okay to walk, Y/N. Like I said, I’m not feeling worse today.” She smiles at you to get her point across, and you nod at her before walking to the kitchen.
Once there, you grab some haroun bread, hubba gourd preserves, and blue milk. You set them all on the table, along with two plates and two cups. Right as you take your seat, your mom walks into the kitchen, taking a seat on the chair across from you.
“Thank you, love.”
“Of course.”
The two of you dig into your respective breakfasts. You notice the hubba gourd preserves are running low, and make a mental note to make some more.
“One of the vaporators seems to be acting up,” she says. “I’ll check it out and see if I have to fix it after breakfast.”
Quickly, you shake your head. “That’s alright, I can handle it.”
“Y/N...”
You interrupt her before she has a chance to protest.
“Mom, it’s fine. I’m headed to the market today anyways. It’d be good to check on the vaporators beforehand to know if I need any supplies to fix them.”
Your mom sighs, shaking her head lightly. She knows you’ve made up your mind on the matter. “Well, let me at least ask Beru to have Luke help you with the vaporators. I was hoping to visit her since she promised me some of her blue milk cheese last time I saw her.”
You shake your head again, this time not as quickly.
“I’m alright. I don’t need Luke to help me. Really, I can handle it.”
Another sigh escapes her lips before a small smile appears. She reaches over to place a hand on your cheek. The once soft hand is now rough, calloused due to years of work.
“My sweet, sweet girl. What would I do without you?”
You just smile at her back, some heat brushing your face at her words.
“That’s what I’m here for, mom.”
Your mother has been sick for some time now. Like she says, it doesn’t technically get worse, but you’re sure something this long term doesn’t help anybody’s health. For as long as you can remember, it’s always been just your mom and you, your father having passed when you were young. She’s taken care of you all your life, nursing you back to health whenever you’ve fallen ill. Now it’s your turn to help her.
Once breakfast is done, you kiss your mom’s cheek before heading to check in the vaporators. She lets you know she is going to visit the Lars family, but should be back for dinner.
You step out into the scorching heat, eyes instantly squinting to adjust to the brightness. Tools in hand, you walk over to the vaporator that is giving trouble. Once you reach it, you begin to inspect it, quickly determining one of the condensers is busted. Should be an easy replacement, but you need to buy some at the market.
Cleaning your hands on a rag, you walk over to your home again to drop off the tools and grab some bags to carry what you plan to buy at the market. You notice your mom is no longer there, having already gone to visit the Lars.
You start the short walk over to the market, almost reaching it when you hear someone running behind you and your name being called. You turn to find who the owner of the voice is, and find Luke slowing down as he catches up to you, you smile.
“Hi Luke,” you say as he reaches you. And though he had been the one who had been running, you know he’s not as breathless as you are at the moment.
He takes a few breaths before speaking. “Hey,” he says and takes another breath. “I went to look for you at your house but hadn’t caught you in time.”
“I need to buy a new condenser for one of the vaporators, as well as some other things from the market.”
“Your mom told me,” he says. The two of you begin your walk to the market, sound of conversation and the smell of different food indicating it’s near.
“Did she also tell you to help me with the vaporators?” You look at him as you ask your question, your eyebrow rising slightly.
His face gives it all away. “I—no she didn’t.”
“Luke...”
“Okay,” he says, raising his hands slightly. “She did ask me to help you out, but in my defense I already planned on visiting you today.”
Luke and you have been friends since childhood. The Lars family are your neighbors, your mom and Beru having always been friendly with each other. With Luke and you being around the same age, it was easy for you to gravitate towards one another. You two are inseparable, and really, you wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Well, you know I’m never opposed to seeing you, Luke, but I can fix the vaporator on my own.”
Once you reach the market you walk straight to the shop that you know will have condensers. Luke is next to you the whole time, not leaving your side.
“I know you can, but I also know you probably have like 10 other things to do today. Let me help you with that one thing.”
After picking up a condenser, you look over at Luke. He’s staring at you, his blue eyes searching your face as he waits for your response. You place a hand on his shoulder and squeeze it lightly.
“Trust me, 11 things isn’t that much different than 10. I can do it.”
Luke throws his head back and gives a dramatic sigh. You laugh as you make your way to purchase the part, Luke’s response being exactly what you expected.
“It won’t hurt you to have some help every once in a while, you know?” Luke is behind you as you pay.
“I know.”
You both leave the shop and walk towards the main line of food stands. You go around to different stands, with you buying the different food and supplies that are running low back home, while Luke is next to you talking about what he’s been up to since the last time he’d seen you.
You’re back home now, hands deep in the vaporator, Luke sitting on the ground next to you. He helped you carry the condenser and some other things back and had almost started fixing the vaporator. You protested before he got his hands on it, reminding him that his original plan was to visit you, making him your guest, and guests don’t fix vaporators.
You raise your arm to wipe some sweat off your brow. Setting the tools down, you turn to grab the water canteen that you had brought, finding Luke already holding it out. Thanking him, you take the canteen, bringing the opening to your lips and greedily drinking the cool liquid, some of it dripping down your chin. As you drink, you can feel Luke’s eyes on you, making you suddenly need more water.
Taking a last gulp, you close the canteen and hand it back to Luke. He keeps his eyes on you, even as he grabs it and takes a drink himself. Now it’s your turn to stare. The way his lips connect with the opening, the way his neck moves as he drinks, the way he looks under the sun, the —
“Do I have something on my face, Y/L/N?”
At his words, you blink a few times. Before you get flustered under his gaze, you huff, deciding to put on a playful front instead of letting him know you were admiring him.
“I should be asking you that, Skywalker. You’re the one that was staring first. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think I have a doop bug on my face.”
Luke laughs, a genuine, full laugh that sounds like music to your ears. And with that, your playful front vanishes, replaced by the flustered state that only Luke can cause. In order to avoid having him see you this way, you turn your attention back to finish off the vaporator.
You finish right before nightfall, the simple task taking longer than planned thanks to Luke, your favorite distraction. When you’re putting away the tools you used, Luke is standing behind you, talking to you about some new parts he got to tinker around with his family’s vaporators.
“If you like, you can come over and I can show them to you. You might still find your mom there.”
You nod at his offer, practically jumping at the opportunity to spend more time with him. “Yeah, that’d be great. I might have to steal some of your ideas for the vaporators.”
So you walk with him to his home, bumping into your mom just about halfway. She has some of Beru’s blue milk cheese, and you let her know you’ll be home soon. When you arrive to the Lars homestead, you greet Owen and Beru, and Luke leads you to his room.
He goes directly to where he has some of his new parts on a table on the corner of his room. Luke is fiddling around with some of the parts, but your eyes land on two little figurines made of wood from japor trees that are on the corner of the table. You pick them up, and upon further inspection you recognize them. You give way to a small gasp, and Luke turns to look at you.
“What’s wrong? Oh...” His eyes land on the figurines in your hand, one of a girl and the other of a boy.
“Are these...are these the ones I made you when we were kids?” Your fingers trace the edges of the rather crude wood carvings, a smile finding its way to your face. “I made these when I was like 10.”
“Yeah, I—I’ve had them since.”
“Why? I mean, they’re not really that good,” you say, laughing at the disproportionate legs and arms.
“Because you made them. For me. How could I not keep them?”
You raise your eyes to look at him, finding he’s looking down at the wood carvings. You take the moment to appreciate how close he is to you. At this proximity, you freely look at his blonde hair, his lashes, his dimpled chin. He’s the epitome of your favorite dreams, and you’d love nothing more than to let him know that.
“I really appreciate you keeping them, Luke.”
He looks up to meet your eyes, a warm smile on his face. Thanking the proximity once again, you have a better view of his smile, the smile that gives you goosebumps on even the hottest Tatooine days.
“Here, let me show you the parts.”
After Luke gushes to you about his plans to modify the vaporators to work more efficiently, he asks you if you’d like to go outside and take advantage of the cooler air. Now, the two of you are sitting under the moons’ light, the absence of the twin suns allowing a small relief of the usual heat.
“So, will you let me modify your vaporators if my technique works?” Luke asks, hope evident in his voice.
“You can teach me how to modify one. I can take care of the rest. I wouldn’t want to keep you from your other duties.”
“You wouldn’t be keeping me from anything, Y/N. You know I love helping you.”
You nod. “I know, Luke. But really, I can do the rest on my own.”
Luke is silent for a second. The seconds soon turn to a few minutes, and you would be okay with it if it weren’t for the unreadable expression on his face. You’re about to break the silence when he beats you to it.
“Why do you always think you have to do everything on your own?”
There it is, there’s the question you know he’s been wanting to ask, but hoped he wouldn’t. A sigh escapes your lips as the emotions you’d been holding back come tumbling down like an avalanche. You feel tears start to well in your eyes, and you look down at your hands to hide them from him.
“Because, Luke, I know one day I’ll be on my own. You’re destined for so much, I know this and you do too. I know one day you’ll be out in the galaxy fulfilling that great destiny of yours, and you should. But I know I have to stay here to care for my mom, and one day she’ll be too weak to do even the smallest things. And that day it’ll all fall on me, so I need to be prepared for when that day comes.”
You blink back the tears, still looking at your hands, afraid to face Luke. His hand comes to take a soft hold of your chin, lifting it lightly. You still avert your eyes, not wanting to look at him.
“Y/N, please look at me.”
You finally do look at him, the pleading in his voice snaking its way into your heart and forcing you to meet his eyes. When your eyes lock with his, you feel yourself sink into his gaze.
“I’m not going to leave you behind. Ever.”
“Luke, you don’t have to always think of me. You have to think about yourself, about your dreams. I’m not letting you stop everything because of me.”
“And I won’t. But I’m not leaving you behind either. You have to understand that. I can’t leave you behind because you’re the one who keeps me going, the one who inspires me to get out of here and search for something better. And I won’t leave you behind because I love you, I’ve loved you since we were children, and I’ll continue loving you until we’re both old and gray.”
You really don’t know what to say. You’ve loved Luke for as long as you can remember, the once childish crush growing into something mature and so real as the years passed. He’d been your first kiss when you two were children, and, unbeknownst to him, your only kiss. So to have him say all this to you leaves you nothing short of wordless.
“Luke, I...I don’t know what to say.”
His hand moves from your chin to cup your face, his thumb grazing your cheek to wipe away a stray tear.
“You don’t have to say anything, Y/N. I just need you to know that you can always count on me. Today, tomorrow, always.”
Before second guessing what you’re doing, you lean in to connect your lips with his. His lips instantly respond. At first you kiss him the way you did all those years ago: innocent and sweet. But soon, the years of love reflect themselves on the kiss.
You grab a hold of his face, bringing him closer to you. His hands drop to take a hold of your waist, staying there for a second until you make the move to inch closer to him. At your action, he pulls you closer to him, his fingers digging slightly into your waist. You let out a small moan at the sensation, one that’s mimicked by his own.
At the sound of Luke’s name, you pull away.
“Luke! I need your help with something!” It’s Owen who calls him.
“I’ll be right there!” Luke answers.
Then he turns to look at you, the biggest smile you’d ever seen adorns his face. You’re smiling as well, your lips tingling. A small laugh escapes you as the two of you continue to stare at each other, not really knowing what to say.
You lean in to give him a quick kiss on his lips, pulling back before he pulls you in again. And when you look at his eyes again, all you see is pure adoration.
A passing traveler had once described to you what you had a hard time imagining: the ocean. So much water in one place, you couldn’t fathom. What shocked you the most was his description of the ocean being blue. The most beautiful blue, you remember him saying. You’d hope to see it yourself one day. However, you know that his words couldn’t be true. The most beautiful blue you’d ever and will ever see is the shade of Luke’s eyes.
“Luke!” Owen calls again.
“Just a minute! I’m just saying goodbye to Y/N,” Luke says, standing up and extending his hand to help you up. You take it and stand up, dusting your pants of sand.
“Oh, then take your time!”
You laugh at Owen’s words. Luke jokingly rolls his eyes, a laugh of his own filling your ears.
“Here, I’ll walk you home.”
“No, Luke, I’m fine. Owen needs you,” you say.
“You heard what he said. I’m taking my time.”
You laugh again, taking a hold of Luke’s arm. The two of you begin the walk to your home. As the two of you walk under the night sky, the light of the moons lighting your way, your conversation fills the air. The two of you tease and laugh, happiness evident. You arrive in front of your home, where Luke promises to see you first thing in the morning, and your chest fills with such beautiful warmth at the anticipation.
When Luke kisses you goodnight before jogging his way back home, you know that now every morning, you’ll have a fourth constant, the one that will always outweigh the other three: love.
So I am by no means an artist, but I picked up some digital tracing/drawing over the summer and I’ve been wanting to do this since forever and I finally did. It’s not perfect but I’m really proud of it because, as perviously mentioned, I am no artist 😂 I present to you, Anakin and I as padawans 🥰
I am and have always been a heavier girl and it’s been something I’ve struggled with. Because of that, I wanted to show some bigger girl representation. For easier mobility I added tighter bottoms as well as to emphasize the Thick Thighs™. I had like 10 layers to do this 😂 specifically the part of drawing myself (Anakin was pretty easy, I just used the picture of him with Padmé). I had some fun with the Jedi robes for myself as well as the padawan hairstyle 😁 It’s definitely not perfect, like I think the proportions of some of the drawing of me are off, but I feel like I will get better with that over time ☺️
tagging some friends who I think might like to see it! 💞
Request: “I loved them more than anything in this world, and they’re dead because of me.” With Anakin Skywalker please? Your last one was *chefs kiss*
Word count: ~2.8k
Warnings: mentions of death, angst, crying, feelings of guilt.
A/N: Sorry for the delay my dear anon! I got busy with summer classes, but I wanted to get it out by today as a little birthday present for myself (wooo happy birthday to me!). I’m glad you enjoyed the last one, and I hope you enjoy this one! As always, please let me know what you all think, your comments always make me so happy! Also, requests are open :)

Keep breathing. Empty your mind. Just focus on the feeling of the Force within you, around you...just breathe. In, out, in again, out again....is that...is someone walking outside?
You open your left eye. Your right eye follows suit, your concentration broken. A sigh escapes your mouth, and you give up on your futile efforts of meditating. Uncrossing your legs, you get up from the floor of your quarters. It’s late and you should be sleeping. But you aren’t. You can’t.
Every moment your eyes close, you see them. Their faces, their fear.
You shake your head, trying in a way to shake the thoughts from your mind. Don’t think about it. The more you think about it, the harder it is.
The cool floor press against your feet as you walk over to the washroom. There, you turn on the faucet, putting your hands under the running water and bringing it onto your face in an attempt to clear your mind. You dry off and make your way back to your bed, sitting on the edge and taking a look at the room before you.
As a Jedi, you were taught not to have possessions, to live a simple life, and your quarters reflected that. The room was filled with the minimum, only little parts of it showing your personality. The bags of your favorite Naboo tea by the small kitchen. Your saber on its place in the table next to your bed. Some nice rocks you had kept from your missions to distant planets. Your favorite cup gifted to you by your former master during your padawan days. The colorful, handmade blanket on your bed–
The blanket they had given you.
You shake your head again, a useless attempt to stop the images of the destruction, of their faces, from filling your mind once again. Defeat washes over you as the realization that you won’t be sleeping anytime soon becomes clear. So instead of wasting your time trying to sleep, you slip on your night slippers, put on your usual Jedi robe, and make your way out of your quarters. You decide to leave your saber behind, this being one of the rare moments you can actually leave it behind.
The halls of the Jedi temple are quiet. It seems everyone else is doing what you can’t: sleep. You make your way down the halls with light steps to avoid making any noise. Your feet lead you to a nearby balcony, where you hope you’ll be able to clear your mind while surrounded by the night.
As you approach the balcony, you realize you were wrong in assuming everyone in the temple was asleep. No, you are not the only one awake. Standing there, looking up at the night sky as you’d planned on doing is no other than Anakin Skywalker.
Your feet stop. The point of leaving your quarters was to have some time to clear your head. Could you do that with someone present?
It doesn’t hurt to try. You two could just stand there in silence. Plus, the next balcony is on the other side of the floor you are on.
With your mind made up, you continue to walk towards the balcony, hoping to not interrupt Anakin who seems to be lost in his own train of thought.
As you reach the opening of the balcony, Anakin turns, a curious look on his face. You smile at him, your hand coming up to give a small wave.
“Hi Anakin. I don’t mean to intrude, I just need some air,” you say. He nods and you make your way to the other side of the balcony, putting a good amount of distance between you two to try to give him his space.
You know Anakin as well as you know most of your Jedi colleagues, at a distance and mostly formal. The interactions between you two have been limited thus far, mainly consisting of greetings around the temple with the occasional meeting on the battlefield. However, you’ve always wanted to get to know him. Your longing to know him better soon developed into something more, something that causes you to go red in the face whenever your interactions are more than just your routine greetings. But you try to suppress the feelings; Jedi are not allowed to have attachments.
Attachments. Funny how you know you’re not supposed to have them, yet you do. Or at least, you did.
You close your eyes as you take a deep breath to try to calm the emotions threatening to come back to you. The night breeze grazes your face, calming you more than your quarters had. You open your eyes, looking down at the bustling city of Coruscant below you.
“You’d think that for a city that’s so loud, nobody would be able to sleep.”
You turn to look at Anakin, where you find him looking at you, his body facing you. His face is easier to see now, and you see how tired he looks, the lack of sleep evident on his face.
“I guess nobody can blame us for being up, then,” you say.
The corner of Anakin’s mouth lifts up slightly, and he looks down at his hands. You take that as a sign that he’s done talking, so you move to face the night sky again.
“Do you mind if I join you?”
You find yourself looking at him again, and he looks almost sheepish as he waits for your response. You nod, your lips tugging up to a smile of reassurance. He makes his way to stand next to you, the heat creeping its way up your face clashing with the coolness of the breeze. Soon, he’s standing next to you, not too close to invade your personal space, but close enough that it was clear you two are here together.
“I would ask you if you’re having trouble sleeping, but I think we’ve covered that already.”
“Yeah,” you say, a small sigh escaping your lips. “It’s been a rough few nights.”
“I understand. I’m going through a rough patch myself,” Anakin says, his voice growing quieter towards the end.
“Well, I’m sure we are both out here to clear our minds, so we should try to do that.” You turn to face him, a sudden sense of confidence running through you. You ignore the way your stomach feels as Anakin turns to face you better, the ghost of a smile playing in his lips.
“If you have any ideas on how to achieve that, I’m all ears.”
Your eyes look at the city below you, thinking of how you two can clear your troubled minds. With the feeling of Anakin’s eyes on you, your eyes dance around the different city structures, the speeders, the life around you. Then it hits you.
“I know what we can do.” You don’t realize how excited you sound until you see one of Anakin’s eyebrows rising, the ghost of a smile manifesting itself into the real thing.
“We’re surrounded by so much life right now. We can clear our minds by living through them in a way, imagining what their lives might be like.” At Anakin’s continued gaze on you, your confidence begins to shake a bit. “If-if you like, of course. If not, we can just enjoy the night in silence—“ You stop the beginning of your rambling as Anakin shakes his head.
“No, no, I like your idea. Living through them.”
And so you begin to imagine the lives of the beings all around you. You take turns in the beginning, each thinking of a name for the driver of a speeder that passes by. Soon, you are both coming up with life stories together, adding unnecessary details that bring smiles and laughs to you both.
“He owns a loth-cat named Obi? You can be a bit more creative with your names, Anakin.” At your words, the Jedi shakes with laughter, a fully-rounded laugh that lights a warm feeling in your chest.
“What can I say? I admire my Master very much.”
Now it’s your turn to laugh. Your hand flies to cover your mouth, the sudden laugh surprising you. It seems to surprise Anakin as well.
“Is that so hard to believe?”
“No, it’s not that,” you rush to say while also trying to regain your breath from your laughter. “It’s just, you two always seem to bicker when together.”
A fond smile appears on Anakin’s face. “I guess it’s just the relationship we have. He’s almost like a brother to me.”
The honesty in his voice makes your laughter disappear. Instead, you find yourself smiling as well. You can see it, to be honest. Obi-Wan’s padawan years were cut short at the sudden death of his master Qui-Gon Jinn, so taking Anakin as his padawan right away meant they had to grow up together.
“I can tell he feels the same about you.” Your words cause him to look timid for a second, his smile shy on his face. He looks at the city below him again, his face growing slightly more serious.
“You know, for how much we’ve been told that emotions should be kept at bay, I believe my emotions are what have made me the Jedi I am today. Attachments...I know we’re supposed to reject them, but who would I be today if I did?” He shakes his head, his hands coming up to cover his face.
He seems so vulnerable like this. It’s something you didn’t expect to be seeing when you decided to leave your quarters earlier. But here you are, and you feel almost honored that he’s showing this side of himself to you.
“I understand, Anakin,” you say, placing a hand lightly on his arm. And maybe it’s the way the lights contrast with the night sky, or the lack of sleep you’ve had the past few days, or the way your heart seems to clench at the sight of Anakin before you, but something prompts you to keep speaking. “I...I’ve loved before.”
It was the first time you called it that. Love. You always knew that’s what you felt for them, but you were always too afraid to face the truth. Your confession makes Anakin turn to look at you. His face looks troubled but somewhat hopeful.
“You have?” he asks, his voice just above a whisper.
You nod, not being able to form the simple ‘yes’ you wanted to. The beating of your heart quickens as the images of their faces come to your mind once more.
“I reconnected with family some time ago while on a mission.” It’s you who’s vulnerable now, your palms growing sweaty as you want to both stay quiet and spill everything you’ve been burying inside for the past weeks. Anakin catches on to your hesitation, moving so that he’s fully facing you, giving you his attention.
“The mission took us to Tora, a small planet on the outer rim. It’s usually uncharted, so small that some consider it insignificant. It’s where I’m from originally.
I was there with Master Plo Koon and the 104th. Commander Wolffe was talking to two locals, when one of them recognized me. Wolffe called me over; it turns out the woman who recognized me was my mother’s childhood friend. That’s how she knew who I was, she said I look just like my mother. Her and her husband knew my mother and father well, and they knew me. They were there when Master Windu found me all those years ago, and they were there when my parents sent me with Master Windu here to the Jedi Order.
That night, I found my way to their home. There was this part of me that needed to know. About my parents. About what my life would’ve been if I hadn’t been Force sensitive. They indulged me in answering all my questions. They informed me that my parents had passed, my mother of an illness, my father of a machinery accident in his place of work. They comforted me as I cried.”
At the memory, your voice wavers. You hadn’t expected the news of your parents to affect you, your memories of them distant. But it had, and they were there to comfort you through it all.
Anakin takes hold of one of your hands, giving it a comforting squeeze. You look at him and he gives you a comforting smile, prompting you to continue.
“We formed a bond that night. I visited any chance I could while on the mission. Even afterwards, I’d visit Tora whenever I found myself near. I was always welcome with open arms by them. They’d have food waiting for me, and in one visit I found they’d made a blanket for me so that I could rest in between my missions.” You smile, they’re words replaying in your mind.
“And I loved them. I know Jedi are not supposed to form attachments, are not supposed to love, but I loved them. I loved them more than anything in this world, and they’re dead because of me.”
They’d been among the casualties of a Separatist attack. The Separatists had wanted to take control of the region, thinking its lack of popularity would make for a great place to hide developments of any battle tactics against the Republic.
Confusion falls on Anakin’s face, quickly followed by understanding. He shakes his head, his hands moving to hold your arms.
“You can’t blame yourself, Y/N,” he says right as a few of the tears you’d been holding back make their way down your face. His hand comes up to wipe them away, the warmth of it bringing comfort to your broken heart.
“I could have saved them, Anakin. I could have arrived sooner.” More tears fall down your cheeks and Anakin continues to wipe them away. “I had to take their bodies out of the rubble. I keep seeing the look on their faces. The fear that was still there.”
Anakin’s arms come around you, bringing you to his chest. The embrace breaks your wall, the tears flowing freely now. His gloved hand comes up to lightly rub the back of your head. He doesn’t try to stop your crying, no, he lets you cry, lets you unbury all the emotions that have been eating at you from inside.
Your crying slows enough that he pulls slightly back. He once again goes to wipe away the tears left on your face.
“It’s hard, Y/N, I know. But you cannot blame yourself. You just can’t. It won’t let you sleep, it won’t let you eat, it won’t let you live. You need to be strong, for them, for their memory.”
You nod, his words doing more for you than the sleepless nights wandering around the temple ever had.
“Thank you for this, Anakin. I’m sorry for dumping all of this on you, it’s just been eating at me for longer than I would like to admit.”
The look of understanding returns to his face. “I get that. I lost someone very close, someone I loved, some time back. I too blamed myself, admittedly I still do. I’m working on not doing that anymore. There’s some nights I’m less successful than others, such as tonight.”
Realization hits you. The both of you had loved. And the both of you had lost those you loved. Now you two are working on it, but not alone. Not anymore. You are finding comfort, finding support in one another.
“Anakin, I...” you stop talking, knowing there’s no words that can express what you want to convey to him. So instead you embrace him this time, your arms enveloping his waist as your face connects with his chest. He doesn’t hesitate on returning your hug, his arms circling you and his face burying itself in your shoulder. You hug him tighter, hoping you can express to him everything he needs to feel the support he’s giving you this night.
After a few moments, the two of you pull back.
“I cannot thank you enough for this, Anakin,” you say. He once again shakes his head, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
“If you need to thank anyone, thank the stars for having us walk onto the same balcony tonight.”
The warmth in your chest is sparked again, spreading until you feel warm all around. Not an uncomfortable warmth, but rather a warmth that makes you feel alive.
You smile, a genuine smile that is mirrored on Anakin’s face. “Well then thank the stars.”
You look at one another for a bit, your smiles unfaltering, before Anakin speaks again.
“Come now. I’ll walk you to your quarters. I think we will both be getting some much needed sleep,” Anakin says. You nod again, following him as he begins to move towards the temple.
And as you walk side by side down the hallway to your quarters, both of your smiles still on each other’s faces, you believe that maybe, just maybe, you can love again.

update: here’s the prequel showing how they met! x
——
It was the end of another long mission, and Anakin found himself doing what he always did when he’d been gone for a long mission: he rushed. It seemed as if that should be the last thing he’d be doing, but Anakin rushed, hurrying to leave the Jedi temple before Obi-Wan or anyone else caused him to be late. He had somewhere to be, someone to see.
Thanking the stars, Anakin managed to slip into his speeder before anyone stopped him. He began his trip to the lower levels of Coruscant, and before long he found himself outside the small house he longed to be in. He hopped off his speeder, running a hand through his hair before bringing it to knock on the door.
He was met by the kind face of a young woman, her eyes brightening at the sight of him.
“Anakin, how are you?” she said, stepping to the side and motioning for him to enter the home.
“I’m good, Lani, just got back.” At the sight of her, he couldn’t help but have his heart sink slightly. She’s not better, he thought, knowing Lani wouldn’t be the one opening the door otherwise.
“I’m glad to hear that, Anakin. She’s over in her room. She knows you’re here, so no need to knock,” Lani said, knowing full well who Anakin was here to see. She smiled at him, encouraging him to go ahead. Anakin gave her a thankful smile in return, and moved through the kitchen to reach the bedroom.
He slowly opened the door, careful not to make too much noise. As he entered the room, he saw who he’d missed so much. There on the bed, covered with a blanket he knew all too well, was you. Your eyes were slightly closed, and at the creak of the door, they opened, finding their way to Anakin. You smiled, sitting up and making a move to grab the blanket to get up and greet your visitor.
“No, no, I don’t think so,” Anakin said, quick to reach your side and stop your hand from flinging the blanket off of you. Now that he was next you, he saw that he was right, you weren’t better. Your eyes looked tired, large dark eyebags emphasizing the exhaustion. The smile on your face, though sincere, looked tired as well, the brightness it usually held not fully there. On the table next to your bed were various handkerchiefs, bottles of medicine, and herbs your sister must have used to try to give you some relief. Anakin was worried, his heart aching at the state you were in, but he tried not to show it.
“That’s not fair,” you said, your bottom lip jutting out in a small pout. “How else am I supposed to greet the person I’ve been wanting to see for so long?”
Anakin smiled, moving his hand and placing it to cup the side of your face. His thumb grazed your bottom lip, pushing it slightly to get rid of the pout.
“You can greet me just fine without getting up.”
You moved over on your bed, making some space on the side where he was standing.
“Well if I can’t get up, then you’ll have to sit down,” you said, patting the space next to you.
He couldn’t say no to that. He took off his boots and set his lightsaber and utility belt on the table next to your bed. He sat on the bed, where you instantly snuggled up to him, wrapping your arms around him as best you could. Chuckling lightly, Anakin repositioned himself so that you could hug him more comfortably, his own arms coming to wrap himself around you.
He didn’t like seeing you like this. You had fallen ill, a slightly severe case of Coruscanti flu. In anyone else, it wouldn’t have had such a large effect; it was common, and there were many treatments for it. But you were different. Your body wasn’t one to fight off illnesses as well as those of others. That paired with the fact that you had just started to recover from a small stomach bug didn’t help your case.
You were born with an extremely rare condition, so rare in fact that it didn’t have a name. It weakened your body, stopping you from having a more active and care free lifestyle. Initially, medics predicted you wouldn’t reach adulthood, yet here you were. However, it was known you were living on borrowed time.
Anakin pulled back, wanting to see your face, your eyes, those eyes he’d missed. You gave him a small smile, interrupted by a cough that shook your whole body. It didn’t sound good, and Anakin felt helpless while more coughs ensued. You turned away from him, grabbing a handkerchief to cover your mouth.
Anakin moved to go get you something to drink, but it seemed your sister heard your coughing fit from the kitchen. Before Anakin could get off the bed, Lani walked into the room, a glass of water in her hand. She handed it to him before leaving the room again.
“Breath, Y/N, breath.” Anakin tried to comfort you, his words seeming to have no effect on you whatsoever as the coughing fit continued to shake you. He handed you the glass of water, his eyebrows knitting together in worry as you gulped the water down in an effort to find relief.
You were finally able to calm the cough, wiping your mouth before turning to look at Anakin again. You looked up at him shyly, your eyes trying to hide the pain the coughing had just had on you.
She’s not better. She’s worse. How can she be worse? She was supposed to be better.
It was as if you read his thoughts. You placed your hand on his arm, looking down to avoid his glance.
“The medics say I’m not getting better, Ani.” He frowned at your words, but before he could say anything, you continued. “They’re saying this is worse than the other times. It’s hurt me more, and they’re not sure how they can help me.”
Anakin was...confused. They weren’t sure how to help you? What did that even mean? Were they to just leave you to fend for yourself? He stayed silent for a bit, trying to process what you’d just told him. At his silence, you looked up at him, your face pleading for him to say something, anything.
“What does...what does this mean?” he finally managed to croak out, his voice low, afraid that if he spoke any louder the reality of the situation might become clear to him.
“I’m only going to get worse, Anakin.”
No. You couldn’t get worse. That’s not how this works. You’re supposed to get better, so he can sneak you into his missions again, so he can continue taking you to different planets around the galaxy, so he can be with you.
“No you’re not.” The words left his mouth before he realized what he was saying.
“Anakin...”
“We’re going to find a way to help you, Y/N. I’m going to find a way to help you. I just need some time–“
“Anakin, I don’t have time.”
Anakin shook his head. He’d ask Obi-Wan, Master Yoda, Master Windu, anyone to help him find a way to help you. He could help save countless lives out on the battlefields, so why couldn’t he save you?
“Look at me, Anakin. Please.” At your pleading voice, he broke away from his racing thoughts. It was your turn to hold his face. Your hands were warm and soft on his cheeks. “There’s nothing we can do, Ani. There’s nothing anyone can do.”
Anakin broke. Tears he didn’t realize he’d been holding back slipped down his face, a heavy sob raking his body. You brought him to you, holding his face to your chest as he held onto you tightly. You gave him time to cry, simply holding him to you and running your fingers through his hair. After some time, Anakin spoke.
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I should’ve helped you. I should’ve been looking for a cure. I could’ve saved you.”
You pushed him back so you could see his face. Your hand came up to wipe the tears left on his face.
“Anakin, you did save me. Before you, I knew nothing of this galaxy, of myself even. You have given me so much. You’ve helped me live my life, actually live it in a way I’d never thought possible. I was at such a low point of my life when I met you, and you came into it and brightened everything, like a sun after an endless night.”
He grabbed your face and kissed you. You kissed him back, and this time it was your turn to let your tears flow. You stayed close after the kiss, needing to be as close to each other as possible.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” Anakin croaked, wiping the few tears that found themselves on your cheeks.
“There’s no need to apologize. I knew how my life would end a long time ago. I guess...I just hoped I’d have a little more time. More time with you.”
Anakin kissed you again, on your forehead, on each of your cheeks, on your lips.
“I love you,” you said, looking at him with eyes of pure adoration.
“I love you, Y/N. I always will,” Anakin said, knowing there were no truer words he’d ever spoken.
“Promise me one thing?” you asked, moving a piece of hair away from Anakin’s face.
“Anything,” he answered, without a second of hesitation.
“Promise me you’ll continue to be my sun. Promise me you’ll always bring brightness to the lives of others, just as you have with me.”
Anakin took a hold of your hand, bringing it to his lips for a kiss before answering.

Scream. That’s all you wanted to do at this moment. You didn’t care who heard you. But you couldn’t. Well you could, you were boiling at this point. But you knew you shouldn’t. It’d bring more attention to you, and make the situation a big deal, having it affect you more than it already had.
To ease the boiling sensation you had inside of you, you paced. You had hurried out to the garden after the confrontation, hoping to hold back the tears threatening to spill down your cheeks. The pacing wasn’t working that well to calm you, really, but at this point some distraction was better than none.
You just couldn’t believe it to be honest. How could he talk to you like that? And in front of other people, no less. You weren’t a child anymore, he was not your father, who did he think he was? It took you a few more paces around the blossoming garden to realize you were not calming down, instead being alone in this peaceful place prompted you to think more and more about what had just happened, fueling your humiliation as if pouring more fuel to a fire.
Taking a deep breath, you decided to head back into the palace, hoping to distract yourself with something that would actually take your mind off the feelings gnawing at you. Maybe you could go into the library, or see what concoction they were stirring up in the kitchen, or maybe –
You heard him before you saw him.
“Y/N”, at the sound of Anakin Skywalker’s voice, your heart couldn’t help skipping a beat. Your eyes lifted, taking their focus off of the ground and instead meeting with his eyes. His ocean blue eyes, adorned by those long lashes, instinctively brought a small smile to your face.
“Anakin.” Your smile was mirrored with his own, a smile that instantly calmed you quicker than the pacing had.
You walked towards one another, stopping until you were directly in front of each other. You hesitated, wanting to embrace him more than anything, but unsure, as always, if he wanted the same. It was as if he sensed your hesitation, because with a reassuring look he engulfed you in his arms, holding you close to him.
You took in a deep breath. You’d missed him. It had only been a few rotations since you’d last seen him, but you couldn’t deny how much you had been looking forward to his return.
Anakin, along with his former Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi, had been making frequent visits to your home plant of Busil since the beginning of the Clone Wars. That had been the way you two had met. His and Obi-Wan’s task to work with your planet for the development of better armor for the clones made their visits frequent, something that allowed you and Anakin to become friends, close friends. The friendship was unexpected, at least for you. For one, you had never been anywhere besides your home planet, so to befriend someone who was not from Busil, a Jedi no less, was something new for you. Secondly, the first time you saw Anakin you were intimidated. He was this extremely handsome, confident Jedi who seemed to know so much about the galaxy, while you were an inexperienced girl who’d been nowhere and had experienced nothing compared to everything he had.
Yet you’d developed a friendship, one which seemed to strengthen each time he came back to Busil. Anakin always took the time to talk to you about all the planets and worlds he’d been in, describing them with such detail that if you’d close your eyes you could imagine being there. He promised you he’d take you to see them one day, from the lively capital of Courascant to the luscious valleys of Alderaan and anywhere else you’d like to go. It was something you’d hope to eventually be able to do, but you knew that if you were to convince your parents of it, first you’d have to convince your way on accompanying the two Jedi in their scouting missions in Busil itself, rather than have your brother lead them like always–
At the thought of your brother, all the emotions that had been clouding your mind before Anakin arrived came rushing back with the strength of a tidal wave, so fast that you couldn’t stop your body from tensing up. Anakin noticed, and with that he pulled away, much to your disappointment. He held you by your upper arms, his eyes searching your face for the answer of your obvious troubled state. Wanting to not ruin the otherwise happy greeting, you tried to ignore his searching eyes.
“How was the scouting mission? I heard you ran into some trouble?”
Anakin frowned lightly, knowing you were trying to act as if nothing was wrong. “It was fine,” he answered anyway. “The trip back was a bit bumpy, which is why I didn’t enter with Obi-Wan and your brother. I was making a quick repair to my speeder. Now please tell me what’s upsetting you.”
You thanked the stars he hadn’t entered with them, or else he would’ve seen the way your brother had embarrassed you by chastising you practically seconds after arriving.
“It’s nothing Anakin,” you said, trying to convince him with a smile. “I’m just glad you're back. I was worried the trouble you had encountered was more serious.”
“Ah well, you know me, nothing I couldn’t handle.” The hint of teasing in his voice was small, but it was enough to widen the smile on your face. His voice returned to a more serious tone, letting you know he knew you were trying to brush off his concern. “Y/N, Obi-Wan told me to come see you. I know something’s wrong.”
Of course he did. The Jedi master was present when it had happened. When your brother had gotten offended at the joking remark you had made. Obi-Wan and you were friends as well, how could you not when he was such a caring and overall lovely man to be around? So when he was standing in the side, looking down at a data pad after greeting you warmly and allowing you to greet your brother, he witnessed the whole argument that ensued. You knew with the way he was looking over at you with concerned eyes that he was trying hard to hold his tongue and that he’d tell Anakin about it later.
“Hmm,” you said, not knowing where to start. Anakin’s hands slid down your forearms and to your hands, holding them lightly. You brought a hand up to your face in an attempt to shield it, as well as a way to control yourself and your emotions.
“I had an argument with my brother, it was stupid and I guess I overreacted in how I responded to it.”
“Y/N, I know you, and I know your brother.” His smooth voice seemed to sliver into you and open the faucet of emotions that was begging to be released.
Before you knew it, you poured it all out. The way your brother misunderstood your joke as an offense. The way he always seemed to be right, and never took the time to apologize for the times he was wrong. The way he’d tell you to stand up to your parents and tell them you were no longer a child yet still treated you like a child when it came to arguments. Because he was the older brother, and he demanded respect, and with that respect meant shutting up when he told you to. Only, you were tired of it.
“I just find it dumb, the way it all started,” you continued on with your rant, one hand still being held by Anakin’s gloved hand, the other flailing around as you tried to express your emotions in a coherent way. “I just, I guess I shouldn’t have reacted the way I did, it seemed to have only added fuel to the fire.”
Anakin shook his head. “Your brother can be...difficult. I’ve seen it first hand. I don’t think you overreacted at all.”
“Thank you, Anakin, I really appreciate you taking the time to listen to all my blabbering,” you said, a small blush creeping up your neck at the realization you had Anakin stand there for minutes while you spilled your sibling drama.
He seemed to sense what you were thinking, his flesh hand coming up to lift your chin a bit to hold eye contact with you. “Never thank me for listening to what’s on your mind, Y/N, whether it’s good, bad, or neither.” His words only made your blush grow, prompting a side of his mouth to form a lopsided smile.
You just weren’t used to it. It seemed as if lately, the last thing people around you did was listen to what you had to say. Yet here was Anakin, having just arrived from a stressful scouting mission, listening to you. You were sure he was tired and wanted to rest, but he wasn’t doing that. He was here with you, holding your hand and just listening.
After a brief moment of silence, Anakin spoke. “You know I like you, Y/N, all of you.” His words took a moment to process. He meant like you as a friend, right? Your face twisted into slight confusion, only making Anakin’s smile grow.
“Y-you mean, as friends r-right?” You couldn’t believe what you just asked. Of course he meant as friends, what else would he mean?
“As everything, Y/N. I thought you knew that.”
“I didn’t.” You admitted. You knew you liked him as friends and more, but only ever dreamed he’d feel the same way. “I thought we were just friends.”
His smile faltered a bit. “I hope I didn’t cross a line. If you don’t feel the same way, I completely understand.” His hold on your hand loosened, prompting you to hold it tighter, wrapping your two hands around it.
“You didn’t cross any line, Ani. I like you too. Since the first visit you made, I’ve liked you.”
Next thing you knew, Anakin’s lips met yours. You were surprised at first, but as the warmth of his lips stayed on your own, you couldn’t help but wrap your arms around his neck, wanting him as close to you as possible. His own hands came up to hold your face, bringing you closer to him as well.
Your inexperience showed in the kiss. You allowed his lips to lead your own, your movements trying to mimic his. At that moment, all your worries, all your stress, melted away. The only thing that mattered was that you were with Anakin.
You stayed close after pulling away, wanting to stay in the moment.
“I’ve been wanting to do that for some time.” You could feel the rumble from his chest under your hands as he spoke.
You couldn’t help but smile when you looked up at him. “Then why didn’t you?”
He shrugged, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear. “I was hoping to find a more intimate moment.”
“Well, I’m glad you finally did.”
He looked at you with warmth in his eyes. The purity of his feelings were evident on his face, and you wanted nothing more than to just stay with him.
“Come, now.” He grabbed your hand and started walking towards the palace. “Obi-Wan and I were talking about something and want your opinion on it.”
“About what?” You questioned, following him to the open doors.
“We have another scouting mission planned for a few rotations from today. We want you to lead it.”
You felt like a youngling who was just told they’d be having sweets for dinner. “I’d love to.”
“I knew you would.” Anakin said, bringing your hand up to kiss it lightly before walking into the palace and towards the meeting room.

Request: “Congrats on 100 again!!! Look at you 🤧🤧 im so proud, a queen getting the recognition she deserves :') I was wondering, could I get #59 from prompt list #1 w/ Anakin por favor? 🥺❤” as requested by @anakinswhore
Description: After accepting an invitation to unwind at 79’s from his men, Anakin meets the person who will show him love like no other.
Word count: ~1.8k
Warnings: some alcohol consumption, some mention of physical illness, sprinkle of spicyness 🌶, unapologetic fluff attack
A/N: this is a prequel to sun, but it can be read on its own! I love sun so much, especially because it was one of my first fics, so I wanted to show how reader and Anakin met for that fic! Since the other fic was somewhat sad, I wanted to give the two some fluff 💞 Also, Julia, I know you liked sun a lot as well, so I thought it’d be fitting to make this the prequel 🥰 If y’all want to listen to the song I had on repeat when writing both sun and this, go ahead and listen to My Father’s Favorite by Patrick Doyle from the Sense and Sensibility soundtrack. It’s from writing sun with that song that it now reminds me so much of Anakin (it’s my theme for him tbh).
Anakin is confident. Or at least, he likes to think he is. He easily takes command on the battlefield, sure of himself when giving orders to his men. So why is it that he’s hesitating now?
It might be because he’s in a new setting, one that he never expected to be in after a battle-filled week: 79’s. Yes, Anakin Skywalker, Jedi Knight and general of the 501st battalion is in the clone bar surrounded by his men.
It’d been Fives’s idea, in a way. He’d been talking to a few of the other clone troopers about how much he was looking forward to unwinding in 79's after ‘this Maker-forsaken week’, when Anakin walked in on the conversation. Surprised by his entrance, Fives blurted out an invitation to the general, not expecting him to accept. Only, he did. And now Anakin is starting to wish he hadn’t.
He’s sitting in a booth, handling a Bloody Rancor, as recommended by Jesse. Sitting next to him is Rex, Anakin’s right hand man both on and off the field. Rex can sense his general’s uneasiness, indicated by his lack of talking and wandering gaze.
“General Skywalker, are you feeling okay?”
Anakin turns to look at Rex, nodding. “Yes, Rex, I’m fine. I’m just getting used to being in a cantina again. The last time I was in one was on a mission with Obi-Wan in my Padawan days.”
Rex chuckles lightly at the response, turning back to resume his conversation with his brothers on the table.
Anakin, on the other hand, keeps looking around. What for, he’s not sure. But his eyes keep traveling, mindlessly. He’s taking a sip of the Bloody Rancor when his eyes stop. He nearly spits out his drink.
He’s looking at you. You’re sitting with some friends, a similar drink to his nestled between your hands. You’re laughing, your face radiant under the cantina lights, and Anakin can’t help but stare.
Fives is the first to notice Anakin’s staring. He nudges Echo, motioning over to Anakin. Rex catches the two’s conversation, and his eyes follow their own, seeing the look of curiosity on Anakin’s face.
“You should ask her for a dance,” Fives says.
Echo looks at Fives in disbelief, shocked that he’d suggest that. “Fives, Jedi can’t—“
“I know, I know,” Fives interrupts his mumbling brother. “That doesn’t mean he can’t enjoy a dance, does it?”
At Fives’s suggestion, Anakin is hesitant again. He wants to go talk to you, he really does, but he’s not sure if he should. But then you turn, the feeling of his eyes on you prompting you to look at him. The smile on your face widens, and now Anakin is convinced he has to go talk to you.
He takes a large gulp of the Bloody Rancor, prompting a small cheer from the clones on the table (except Rex, who doesn’t want to pressure Anakin). He stands, smoothing his Jedi robes before making his way over to the table you and your friends are sitting at.
When he reaches your table, he clears his throat. Your eyes lock with his own again, and the way your eyes themselves are smiling at him make Anakin feel like a youngling again.
As if on queue, a new song starts, a slower song that has couples flocking to dance.
“Hello, I don’t mean to interrupt. I was wondering if you wanted to dance?” He’s extending his hand to you, and though he looks sure of himself, inside his heart is beating like a drum.
“I’d love to,” you say, and Maker the sound of your voice alone has him weak at the knees.
“Y/N, are you sure?” The woman sitting next to you tries to ask you discreetly, but Anakin picks up what she says. Looking over at her, he sees similarities between you and her, and he’s sure you’re related.
“I’m fine, Lani, it’s a slower song.” The woman, Lani, nods, though she doesn’t look fully convinced.
You take a hold of Anakin’s hand, skin coming to contact with his own. He leads you to where other couples are dancing, and places his gloved hand on the small of your back, making sure not to go too low. Your free hand takes a hold of his shoulder, and, following his lead, you begin to sway to the music.
At first, neither of you speak. You just move with the music, a small, content smile on your face. Then Anakin breaks the silence.
“Your name is Y/N.” It’s more of a statement than a question, having heard what Lani called you.
“Yes, I’m Y/N Y/L/N. And who do I have the pleasure of dancing with tonight?” You’re uncommonly bold tonight, unbeknownst to Anakin.
“Anakin Skywalker,” he says.
“Anakin.” You say his name. You enjoy the way it feels to say it, and Anakin knows he could hear you saying his name over and over again.
“Lani, is she your...”
“My sister. She’s my older sister.”
Anakin nods, the similarities in looks making sense. “She didn’t seem to want you to come dance.”
“It’s nothing against you, trust me. She’s just worried because I’m sick.”
Anakin’s eyebrows raise lightly. “Sick?”
You nod, a bashful look crossing your face and causing you to look down. “I can be prone to getting sick often, more often than most, and my body isn’t the strongest to fight it off. Lani can be protective because of that. I don’t usually tell people right away, but I guess I should give you a chance to run before anything.”
Anakin frowns lightly. Run? Who said anything about running? He takes his hand away from your back to slightly lift your chin, prompting you to look at him.
“I’m not going anywhere.”
Your face instantly lights up with a smile, one that Anakin knows he wants to always keep on your face.
The two of you are seemingly stuck to each other the rest of the night, dancing and talking non stop. When it’s time to go home, Anakin walks you to your place, already making plans for when to see you again. Your meetings multiply over the days, the months, and soon, you’re seeing each other every chance you get.
It’s right before an assignment he’s sent on that he realizes he loves you. He’s known for some time now, arguably he’s known since the moment he laid eyes on you that night in 79’s. But there’s something about today, about the thought of not seeing you for Maker knows how many rotations, that pushes the thought to the front of his mind.
He loves you, and he needs to let you know.
Anakin is standing outside the door of your home, waiting for you to answer the door. He should be back at the Jedi temple, ready to depart with Rex, but he’s not.
You open the door, a surprised look on your face at the sight of him. Meanwhile, Anakin is smiling, the usual smile his face adapts every time he sees you.
“Ani, I thought you were off to Naboo today.”
“I am, but I wanted to see you first.”
Your mouth curls up to a smile, and you open the door wider to let him in. Once inside, you hug him and give him a kiss on the cheek.
“I love that you came, but aren’t you going to be late? You said Rex and you were set to leave at,” you look over at the clock on your wall. “Now!”
Anakin laughs lightly, wrapping his arms around your waist to pull you into him. You’re not sure how he’s so calm about being late for his assignment; in all your time knowing him, he’s never been late.
“It’s alright, my love. I told Rex to expect delays.”
At his nonchalant manner, you can’t help but join in and laugh. You take a hold of his face, bringing it down so that you can kiss him. When your lips meet, they mold perfectly, as always. Anakin moves to deepen the kiss, his brows furrowed in concentration. His eagerness reminds you of your first kiss together.
You’d been sick, and Anakin had stopped to check up on you. After helping feed you some soup, much to your protest, you were wiping your mouth. His eyes focused on your lips, and in a bash of boldness, he’d leaned in to take your lips with his. The two of you were left breathless, much like now.
Your need for air causes you to pull back, to Anakin’s dismay. He could kiss you forever, the taste of your lips doing more at keeping him alive than oxygen itself.
Without hesitating, Anakin speaks. “I love you.”
You pull his face down to yours again, literal electricity sparking when your lips meet. You’ve kissed him just seconds ago, but this kiss, it’s different.
Anakin’s arms around you tighten, mouth exploring your own, as if it holds hidden treasures. Your hands entangle in his locks, tugging lightly and earning a groan from him. You take a small nip at his lip before pulling back, taking in the look of a closed eyed, drunken-like Anakin.
“Wow.”
His response elicits a giggle from you, the sound making Anakin open his eyes.
“I love you, sun of my life. I always will,” you say.
He leans in to kiss you for a third time, this time trading your lips for the top of your head. It’s soft and tender, one that evokes a content sigh from you.
“Come to Naboo with me.” His lips are still on top of your head, his invitation mumbled.
You pull back to look up at him. You’ve never been anywhere but Coruscant, Anakin knows that. He’d always promised you that he’d take you to experience the different worlds within the galaxy. You’d always assumed he’d meant after the war. Anakin, on the other hand, saw no better time than now.
“I’m sure guests aren’t allowed on assignments related to Jedi business,” you say, cocking a brow.
Anakin gives you a lopsided grin, moving a strand of hair from your face.
“Nobody has to know.” The look of confusion on your face causes him to laugh. “I could sneak you on the transport. It’ll just be Rex, a few of my men, and I. It shouldn’t be difficult.”
“Ani, I don’t want to get you into any trouble.”
“You won’t, don’t you worry about that. Plus, the Festival of Light will be tomorrow. I’d love for you to see it.”
Anakin sees and senses your hesitation. When you let out a sigh, he knows he’s won.
You finally agree, and Anakin envelopes you in a hug. It’s the first of many assignments and low risk missions he sneaks you into. He makes it his mission to show you the galaxy, to show you the beauties that, for him, will never compare to you.
Every time you land on a new planet, a smile of pure fascination paints your face. And every time Anakin sees it, he knows there’s nothing he wouldn’t do to keep you smiling.
