Yeah, at the point where someone thinks that’s a salient way to enter the conversation, they aren’t interested in rational conversation. They are clearly very passionate about ignoring reason.

I’ve heard people say “Yeah, Trump’s racist, but he’s better than Hillary” or “Yeah, Trump’s racist, but the rest of his policies are so good, we’re going to slog through the bad to get to them”.

And I hate those. Greatly. But I respect them a lot more than the obstinate, head-up-ass denial that he’s said racist things.
