Social Media, part one, analysis activity 1, ph 402
@globalcommunicationproject
Both pages could certainly use some improvement to boost traffic to their pages. I will analyze each page separately, noting the pros and cons of each.
San Diego
Cons: The growth rate for likes appears to be slow (although some growth is better than no growth. Also they are not using hash tags, which is an increasingly popular trend in social media and could boost traffic. The number of likes, comments, and shares is also very low, which could perhaps be improved with better messages. The page also doesn’t allow others to post to timeline, which means there may be less active involvement on behalf of followers.
Pros: The posts per week is 2.18, which is good because followers will likely see at least one post each week but will not feel like their newsfeed is inundated with posts from the county.
Recommendations: 1. Allow others to post on timeline. 2. Use hash tags 3. Use messages between 100-500 characters (like San Francisco) 4. Encourage viewers to share, like, comment 5. Ask viewers questions.
San Francisco
Cons: The posts per week is very low, at 1.62, meaning people may easily miss one of the daily posts. The likes, etc. is very low, even less than half of San Diego’s. The engagement rate is extremely low, indicating that there isn’t active involvement with followers.
Pros: Hash tags are being used, which ultimately exposes the page to new viewers. The length of posts are within the ideal range for viewers (long enough to give out a good message but short enough to be easily readable).
Recommendations: 1. Post more often (like San Diego). 2. Encourage likes, shares, etc. 3. Ask the viewers questions. 4. Improve timing of posts. 5. Use more photos, since that’s what the viewers have geen responding to most.
