Magickal Food of the Month; Apples
It should come as no surprise to anyone that Scott Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs is my go to book for knowledge on my herb of the week blog post. However while browsing through my beloved volume for my choices I have found certain entries did not meet the herbal qualifications as they were instead foods. I brought the idea before my Facebook group of doing a food of the month post. The response was positive. So without further ado I present to you the Magick of Apples.
I opted to begin the food of the month blog post in October as it is the month Samhain is celebrated. Samhain is the Celtic Sabbat celebrating the new year. Apples are considered to be one of the foods of the dead. Which is why Samhain is also known as Feast of Apples.
Apples are associated with the element of water and ruled by the planet Venus. It is sacred to many deities. Among them are Venus, Dionysus, Olwen and Iduna. Love, healing, garden magick and immortality are all powers of apples.
Some Magickal Uses Are As Follows:
A simple love spell involves cutting an apple in half and simply sharing it with your beloved. This will guarantee that you will be happy together.
Eating an apple is said to help prevent fever.
Fashion poppets or Magickal figures out of apples to use in your spells.
Apples were eaten by the Norse to gain immortality through Wisdom.
I hope you have enjoyed this blog post on the Magick of Apples. I am looking forward to enjoying some of the delicious applesauce pictured above. I brewed it up in my electric cauldron today. Keep an eye out for recipes and other Magickal uses for apples throughout the month of October.
