Hello Friends! I recently downloaded an interesting software program called Anarchy Arcade that allows you to create a 3D representation of your computer shortcuts. You can make shortcuts to just about anything. Perhaps someday no one will use a desktop or start menu, they will just walk around their virtual space and decide on a whim what content they want to consume. It is built on Valve’s source engine, comes with lots of props, and is highly customizable. Above you can see what I have so far, my fresh new steam games on the right, and my ‘internet room’ on the left, complete with a time machine from Back to the Future. (Yes, you can import custom models!)
I’m looking forward to setting up a room dedicated to watching documentaries, one for listening to music, and probably a library for reading eBooks and listening to audio-books. Much of the content you link to can be viewed inside the virtual world itself so you feel as if you are watching a TV on a wall, or listening to a song out of speakers. You can also set up the objects so that interacting with them opens an external program, if you rather not surf tumblr while inside a virtual space. While using external programs, your virtual hub will be right there in the background so you can return home after your tumblr session. You can also have people over to see your virtual space and have ‘limited’ interactions with your space.
Once my HTC Vive arrives, I’ll be able to plug into this space through VR and just never leave.
Also, this is my first post for the brand new Virtual Dimensions blog. Thanks for reading this far back! I look forward to making many more posts about VR/AR news, reviews, previews, and anything else that can plug us into The Matrix. See you on the other side! -Virtual Dimension Jumper 042
I just found something interesting on steam, there’s a program that strives to operate as a 3d space desktop, kinda like a hub world for all of your games, music, pictures, and whatever, i’m not doing this to advertise but if that sounds interesting too you here’s the link to the steam page EDIT: its source engine based so you can use Tf2/garrys mod maps
may i suggest anarchy arcade to anyone? like... anyone at all?
it’s multiplayer? and it can do more than just play games? and that it’s 100% free?
just. go check it out. you have nothing to lose
(i’d also highly suggest it to any f|ickin whose canon had an arcade, you can probably replicate it, this is so highly customizable it’s crazy)
“So how’d you spend your morning?”
uhhhh
Anarchy Arcade
Hey, for anyone who hasn't heard, Anarchy Arcade is here, in Early Access, on steam. It is the next big thing when it comes to Virtual Reality. You're in a house filled with pictures and documents from your computer! But better than that it lets you search the web, play games, music, use photoshop, manage your bank account, all in a virtual 3D world. This idea is amazing and the fact that it's here, and free, is even more amazing. So please, go watch some videos, download it on Steam it's free and only 3GB's and tell your friends. The only thing this needs to succeed is some love and attention guys. I think it's awesome, I'm sure you will too. Check it out

We’ve been big fans of Anarchy Arcade for a while now, and as it’s just been released for free on Steam Early Access, now is a perfect time to try it if you’ve still not given it a go.
Anarchy Arcade is an ingenious game/program that allows you to build a fully functional arcade with your Steam library (and other non-Steam games). Customise the Arcade as you like, with pictures/posters, props, furniture, movies, internet pages, internet radio, YouTube videos, and various types of Arcade Cabinet. It even includes Oculus Rift Support for the full virtual arcade experience.
As you fill your arcade, you’ll unlock more and more items, such as arcade cabinets, furniture and even new locations (including E3), there’s a massive selection of stuff to play around with, allowing you to really make the arcade your own. There’s even multiplayer, so you can invite your friends to your arcade to show off your creations.
The customisation options are incredible, you can put any media onto anything you can think of (once unlocked), you can play Starcraft from a Steam box, Watch a movie from a tablet, Play GTA IV from a racing cabinet and so much more. There’s even huge amount of emulator support, with you able to play everything from MAME to Wii Roms through Anarchy Arcade. You probably won’t play them as you’ll be too busy making your arcade look awesome, but you CAN play them, in Anarchy Arcade you can play anything.
