breaking point | came back wrong | breathe
Content: nightmare, romantic caretaker, implied gore
Yes this is more fluffy than I normally do but I liked the idea
Lothrandir felt the cold ache in his bones. He hung in chains in the Wizard’s study. He shouldn’t be here. Had it all been a dream? Was he still just a prisoner?
The wizard circled around him, slow and methodical. The soft footsteps stopped in front of him. Saruman’s face twisted in rage.
A clawed hand struck his chest, tore into his torso, wrapped around his heart — and pulled. He hung there as the wizard held his beating heart, the ache filling his body with cold.
He woke with a cry. It was just a dream. He was safe. The war was over. Right?
But he could still feel the cold claw of the wizard in his chest.
Anarlossë blinked awake beside him. She saw him sitting up, the blankets having fallen off in his thrashing.
“Lothrandir?” She groggily sat up.
He shook his head, embarrassed to have woken her. “It was… just a dream.” He drew his knees up and rested his forehead on them. His heart still pounded.
She scooted closer and gently rubbed his back. “Breathe, melleth nin. Just take a deep breath.”
He did. Slowly his heart slowed and he lay back down.
“Forgive me, love, I did not mean to wake you.” He hated being plagued by these nightmares.
She laid her head on his chest and wrapped her arms around him. “You know you’re not the only one who has the nightmares. But I’m here. We’re both safe.”
He nodded, pressing a kiss to the crown of her head, and eventually fell back asleep.
