Smiths of Eregion
Imagine being a smith of Eregion. You have this fantastic work environment, and a great boss who encourages your creativity.
Plus you get to work with a diverse group who bring their own skills and are happy to swap knowledge.
You work with Mithril. You get to build the world's best protections. You build doors with password protection to create safe spaces. And armour to protect the most vulnerable.
You write entire libraries, that other smiths review and anyone can read them, for free. The doors get thrown open and anyone who comes to your city can read your work.
You are part of something really good. You all build something incredible together.
Then Annatar comes along. Suddenly your boss isn't so nice. He's obsessed with these new rings Annatar wants.
The rings only seem to corrupt your work. They will be used solely for surveillance and oppression. Not just of you, but your dwarven friends and the second born you have encountered.
The balrog is let lose, destroying an entire environment, seemly overnight. The Mithril is only used to make rings now.
Your work disappears, overnight it seems. The library is now replaced wth propaganda about the rings. If you say how bad the rings are, your boss just dismisses you.
You watch helpless, as everything you built is corrupted. It's too late, when people outside the city start saying the rings are bad. Your life's work is already gone. All you can do is despair at the destruction.

This is how working in IT feels, after AI. We built something good once. And now it must be destroyed, for the planet.
