Summary: Roman is forced to take a picnic break by his boyfriends

~~*~~
“Can I take the basket at least?” Roman almost begs as he walks behind his boyfriends.
“Nope,” Virgil says, popping the ‘p’.
“You get to relax both your body and brain, my dear. That’s the point of all this,” Janus reaffirms, looking over his shoulder. “We want you to not worry about any of those pesky little things that keep swarming you.”
“They’re not pesky,” Roman grumbles and Janus grin softens into a smile.
“Your passion for your projects is endearing, my love, but you’re giving too much. Nothing’s going to get done if you burn yourself out. So just breathe and let us spoil you for a few hours.”
“Yeah, princey. We know you love taking care of us and all, but we want to do that for you sometimes, too.”
Roman’s shoulders sag and he sighs.
“I know. And I’m grateful, really! It’s just…”
“It’s hard to let go. We know, darling,” Janus reassures as they stop at their planned picnic spot. “That’s why we’re here to help.”
As Virgil starts setting up, Janus pulls Roman into a kiss.
And we're at the end! I'll still reblog posts this blog is tagged in two weeks after the event is over, so don't worry if you're behind/delayed!! The purpose of this event is to have fun, and I hope everyone did!
The Great Hall has held many a meetings of the suits.
Janus imagined this one was the most interesting
Janus could hear Virgil muttering to himself as he swung open the doors to The Great Hall.
“Either speak up or say nothing, Virgil. The other Suits won’t tolerate gossip.”
He could practically see Virgil roll his eyes.
“Sorry, m’lord. I was just… nevermind.”
Virgil pulled out the chair with a Spade engraved into it, and Janus gracefully sat down.
“Please, feel free to share Virgil. You know I value your expertise.”
It was true. Virgil was the only person Janus trusted in this world. They had been through everything together. From living in the streets to the royal palace, Virgil had stayed by Janus’s side through it all.
If he didn’t know better, he’d say they were in love with each other.
“I was just thinking, m’lord, why would the Ancient Kings build this place? We can meet anywhere! Why not spend the money and resources bettering their kingdoms? Were there no people to feed? No homes needing rebuilding? No-”
Virgil was cut off by the doors opening once again.
“King Janus! How lovely it is to see you again.”
Janus stood and bowed to the King and Queen of Clubs.
“Emile, Remy. Pleasure seeing you both again as well.”
Remy sat in the chair next to Janus, and leaned in towards the new king. “Are you nervous, King Janus? Don’t be. The other Royals are fabulous. Not as fabulous as me, though.”
Janus made a small glance at Virgil, who was smiling like a fool. They both remembered how Remy loved to hear himself talk.
All the better that Emilie loved to listen.
The other royals soon flowed into the Great Hall. Patton, the King of Hearts, along with Logan, his knight, followed by the Mysterious King of Diamonds.
The King of Diamonds was the only Royal who hadn’t attended Janus’s coronation last month. The other suits all stated that wasn’t unusual, as he was a very secretive man. He didn’t share much at their meetings, only that his kingdom was always thriving more than it had the year before.
Janus hoped he had the paperwork to back it up.
Janus proceeded with the typical polite greetings, but settled quickly once Emile called to order.
As the King of Clubs, Emile technically held the highest rank among them, followed by the Diamonds, the Hearts, and of course, The Spades.
“Thank you, thank you all for joining us here today. As we all know, The Great Hall was built by The Ancient Kings as a place for us to meet. To discuss our kingdoms and their growth-”
The doors swung open, interrupting Emile.
The King of Diamonds immediately rose.
Janus eyed the men who had interrupted them.
They were clearly brothers, possibly even twins. One was wearing what Janus considered rags. The other… The other was clad in an off-white coat, a red sash, and had his hair tied up in a matching red ribbon. Janus couldn’t help but admire how beautiful he was, even in his simple attire. The one in white began striding over to the King of Diamonds, who quickly put himself between the men and the other Kings.
“How dare you interrupt…this is… for royalty only!” Were the only words Janus was able to hear.
“Unluckily for you, I am one.”
The man pushed past the King of Diamonds and placed a scroll on the table.
“Great Kings and Queens of the land, I am Roman, newly elected King of the Bells.”
Janus shared another look with Virgil, who now had his hand on his sword.
“You have most likely never heard of us. We Bells are said to be descendants of The Great Falconers, who were renowned in ancient times as heroes of the realm, even before The Ancient Kings.”
Janus listened to the man intently.
“We Bells have been oppressed for too long! He-” Roman pointed to the King of Diamonds. “He has kept us in oppression! Our men, women, children, staring to death in the streets! We are denied homes, left out of schools, and sacrifice our health every day in his mines! I am here, begging you, please. Help me rescue my people from his evil clutches.”
Janus took the scroll the man had thrown down. He carefully broke the seal and unraveled it, reading the words within.
It was indeed an election result. These ‘Bells’ had declared Roman their king. He passed the scroll to Remy, who passed it to Emile. The King of Clubs read over it, then looked to the King of Diamonds.
“Abner, is this true?”
“Of course not, my liege! Roman, he’s a young, poor, confused boy. He’s always attempted to say he’s a part of these… ‘Bells’! He’s come to my court hollering about this, this nonsense for years with no results!”
Janus raised an eyebrow at that. “Well, if he’s come through your court, surely your Jack will recall him? Help us clear all this up?”
“Of course! Toby!” The King of Diamonds, Abner, yelled for his Jack.
Toby quickly scrambled into the great hall. His eyes nervously flickered between his King and Roman.
“Toby. Do you recognize this man?” Emile asked.
“Um, yes my liege.” Toby replied.
“And who is he?”
“This is… this is Roman, your majesty. He comes to our court often.”
“To which suit does he pledge his allegiance?” Janus asked.
He watched Toby nervously glance at his King, who gave him a stern glare in return.
“He… he is a Bell, my liege.” Toby gave one last glance to King Abner. “As… as am I.”
Toby slowly sank back and took Roman’s brother's hand.
“Well then, this is a very serious matter then. Abner, if you truly have been hurting these people, then-”
Abner interrupted Emile by slapping Toby across the face.
“You traitor! I cannot believe-”
“Abner! This is unnecessary! Guards! Guards!”
Virgil drew his sword and quickly pulled Janus behind him as the guards crowded around The King of Diamonds.
“Fools! You all will regret this! All of you!”
The King waved his hands, and in a puff of smoke, he disappeared.

“Do you think I’m pretty?”
“Jay, please!”
“Answer the question, darling.”
“…Yes, you are. Can you quit it now?”
“No, I don’t think so. What about me do you think is pretty?”
Virgil whined loudly, which drew the attention of their partner in the next room.
“V? What’s going on?” Roman asked as he entered the living room, perplexed to find Janus perched on Virgil’s lap with a wicked grin on his lips. “What did you do to them?”
“Nothing bad!” Janus hummed, unconvincingly.
“He used his stupid fae magic to force me to be truthful. And he’s just using it to fish for compliments!”
“If you’d be more honest with me on a regular basis, I wouldn’t have to resort to mean methods, my dear,” Janus teased as he placed a light kiss against Virgil’s temple. “And the plan is for you to not just compliment me, darling, but to get you to face that awful self-deprecation habit.”
Virgil flinched and drew his shoulders up.
“I don’t have a—” His mouth snapped shut as the magic didn’t allow the lie to slip past his lips.
Roman gets trapped in a jewellery store robbery. Luckily the resident hero-villain pair are there to rescue him.

"As lovely as your apartment is," Roman said to his two hosts-slash-kidnappers, "Am I actually a kidnap-ee or am I free to go? I do have a job and stuff, you know-"
Jay turned from where he had been cooking noodles for lunch to look over at him, laughing a little.
"No, you're free to go," he said, "We wanted to keep you here until we were sure you didn't need a hospital, but as long as you're not experiencing any issues, we… I suppose you can go."
"Why do you sound so upset?" Roman asked, tilting his head as he walked over to lean on the ocunter. It had been almost a full week since his injury and subsequent kidnapping, and aside from a few aches and pains, the injuries had all healed well. Especially with how oddly vigilant and insistant V was with him resting and eating properly. Roman was healing well and fast and really it was getting to the point where he wanted to get back to his life. His family and team alike were probably wondering where on earth he was, too.
Jay didn't seem very interested in answering him as he plated up the noodles, and V, who had absolutely been listening in, appeared around the corner.
"It's kinda nice to have someone else around," V admitted, sitting down next to him, "it gets boring when it's just me and Jay sometimes."
"Wow," Jay rolled his eyes, passing them both a plate of noodles, "I can't believe this slander."
But as much as Roman enjoyed the banter, he ended up leaving the next day. Jay walked him to the train station, helping to carry his belongings - including his guitar, it was honestly a miracle it hadn't been broken when he'd been thrown to the ground during the villain fight.
"Here," Jay said softly when Roman went to board the train, "Incase you ever need us, alright?"
A piece of paper was pressed into his hands before Jay pushed him in the direction of the train. It wasn't until he was seated that he was able to uncrumple the paper and actually look at it. On it was written two phone numbers in different handwriting. One of them signed 'J' and the other 'V'. Had they really both just given him their numbers? Was he supposed to text them now, or was it just incase of an emergancy?
Weeks passed, the phone numbers stayed on the paper in the back of his phone case. Despite the week he'd spent with the hero and villain, he was for some reason nervous to text them. It was upsetting, because Roman would have loved to keep talknig to them, but after so long they probably didn't want to hear from him anymore. He went on with his life, making excuses for his brief disappearance as he worked on a few new song releases for the season.
Life went by as normal, until one day he was visiting the mall and somewhere, something went wrong.
It was a hostage situation, Roman found himself hiding in the back corner of the jewellery store, terrified as some new-to-the-scene villain attacked the jewellery store Roman had just gone into to look at the expensive rings, trapping everyone inside. Roman didn't know what to do.
And then he remembered the phone numbers.
He pulled the paper carefully from the back of his phone case, carefully typing in the number Jay had left for him. He took a deep breath and hit call.
It rang twice, three times, four, and Roman was slowly getting worried that Jay wouldn't answer an unknown number. it had been so long, of course a superhero wouldn't answer an unknown number-
"Hello?"
Roman almost screamed, he hadn't even notice Jay pick up.
"Jay?" Roman whispered into the phone, peeking up over the counter he was hidden behind to make sure the villain wasn't near him, that he wouldn't draw attention.
"Who is this?" Jay asked, seeming confused.
"It- it's Roman," Roman whispered, "I'm so sorry- I- I didn't call but - but I'm in a really bad spot right now and I really need help-"
"Roman?" Jay asked, "Oh goodness you sound terrified darling, what's going on?"
"There's - i'm at the mall and theres some guy who's robbing the jewellery store I'm in and he's not letting people leave -" Roman rambled a whispered explanation. Jay shushed him.
"Okay hon, stay quiet, I need you to send me your location, can you do that?" Jay asked. Roman made a quiet affermative sound and quickly set about opening a message and sending over his location.
"I've got it," Jay said softly, "We're on our way - stay on the phone if you can and keep us upated, okay darling?"
"Okay," Roman whipsered, holding his phone tight as he peeked over again to get another, "Wait - us/"
"I'm bringing V, of course," Jay said, "Just hang in there, okay?"
"Hey," came V's voice, "We've got you, okay?"
Only ten minutes later there was a crash and both hero and villain entered the building. Roman head the villain get taken down, there was yelling and fighting from the front of the store, Roman thought he could hear Viper's voice.
But what was most important right now was the voice right beside him.
"Psst-"
When Roman looked over, he met V's purple eyes. He was wearing the Tempest costume, which made sense, but seeing him again made Roman's heart stutter.
"C'mere sweetie," V said, holding out his arms, "I'll get you out of here, Viper's taking care of the bad guy."
It should be telling, of something, that Roman didn't hesitate to throw himself into the villain's arms. Tempest rushed him out of there, hurrying away just a little while until they were a safe ways away from the store.
Out there, on a bench, they sat and talked until Jay came and joined them as well. they must've chosen this spot beforehand. When he arrived, he passed a cake bar to Roman and then one to V as well.
"Hello darling," Jay said sitting down next to him, "How are you feeling?"
"I'm okay," Roman said, "A ltitle shaken up, otherwise… good, despite the circumstances I… it's nice to see you guys again."
"Why did you never call?" Jay asked, wrapping an arm around Roman's shoulders, "We would've loved to hear from you…?"
"I- I wasn't sure if you meant it just for emergancies," Roman said with a small embarrassed laugh, "And then I felt like I'd waited too long-"
"Never," V said, "We'd love to hear from you."
"Really?"
"Yes, really darling," Jay said, leaning over and kissing the top of Roman's head. His face went red and Jay chuckled, just as V pulled Roman into a hug. The affection was foreign, he had no idea what was going on, but he couldn't help but relax into it.
He could certainly get used to this.
