Thank you! I love all the theories about “hyacinthine hair” and so forth in Homer, and all the arguments about what the actual flower was (I think the iris theory is pretty good?), but if we’re talking about modern hyacinths I think it would refer to the way the flowers curl.

Thank you thank you thank you to all the people who sent love and prayers on Sunday; they were heart-warming to wake up to and it is such a gift to have you as a part of my life. ladycirce, aestheticvalues, roseoftopaz, anastrophic, flightandsundry, timeswhenlucywasright - and especially numenoreanhobbit and sponsa-dei. You are wonderful.
I got up the next day (at 4.50am to write my essay, lolllll) and had a lovely, lovely day - had an excellent lecture and an excellent tute, wrote and handed in a decent essay, had a heart-building sesh with my spiritual director. So it was good. And today's been good too.
And now I've just made two trips to Sainsbury's and am going to bake some flapjacks (!!!) and try to be solidly in bed by 10pm.
