She was having trouble settling into Alexandria, where there were houses and water. There were walls and clean clothes and beds. A system, a life, like nothing had touched it. Beth had lost track of time, after she'd gotten out of Grady and lived life in the woods, walking because she was alone and she had nowhere to go, no one to walk beside her. Beth hadn't lost herself, not really. She still prayed every morning, she still had hope that she would find a group that would take her in and she'd be apart of something like a family again.
She was just alone with trees and walkers to kill, the count higher and higher. She would wake up, if she slept, and she would climb down from whatever tree she had deemed safe enough. She would pack up her security system which contained of shoelaces all tied together until it was long enough that she had strung it with various parts of junk. Then she would drink some water and eat whatever food she'd been able to scavage and spend another day walking and killing walkers.
When she'd come to the gate of Alexandria, it had been a miracle when she was face-to-face with Rick Grimes. She almost didn't recognize him or any of the other members that were family. She was happy, of course, but she'd been alone for so long that it was hard.
She was not adjusting properly. She couldn't sleep in a bed. She couldn't stomach the food, even though it was good and she was starving. All of the people, constantly, it was too much. The wall, the shelter, the water, all of it. It was overwhelming and yet, wasn't this exactly what she'd been praying for? Begging God to help her find a home, and here she'd found a home and her family but she couldn't seem to wrap her mind around all of it.
Beth put her hand against the wall, glancing up as she did. On the other side was walkers, she could hear them. It's not like she longed to be alone or to be back out there, except... she kind of did. She should be taking that walker out, getting rid of the problem and ensuring that it wouldn't be a problem later but instead, she turned and sat down, using the wall to rest her back against it.
She just wanted to be normal again.
