anon, I do not find this Creepy, but mostly a bit bewildering. Do I reference Illinois a lot? I had no idea! In fact I have never been to Illinois (tho I am thinking about going to Chicago this summer [!!]). Mostly, I just think it’s really important when you’re writing the Winchesters to have a vast and varied sense of the American landscape. The Impala is home, so necessarily America is their backyard; I try to make sure that the various towns they roll through in my fics seem simultaneously… individualized and mundane? I don’t know if I actually succeed in that, but. There is nothing new to Sam or Dean in this country, not really–and yet, they also know the difference between Peoria and Portland and Providence. It means I spend a lot of time on Google Maps. :)
