A question ...
It’s the last day of school for my youngest (who’s in high school). I’m told even the school officials don’t really expect/want anyone to show up today, that the day was scheduled based on some new state requirement. Finals ended two days ago. (They were off yesterday.) There is nothing to do today.
I get all of that. But I was raised to believe that, if school was in session, I was expected to be there. I also realize my youngest is not going to do anything more today than the rest of the summer -- which is to sit around playing video games and complaining about boredom. I also know I will be the one stuck calling the school to “lie” about how my youngest doesn’t feel well. (If I call in, it’s an excused absence and the school still gets state funding. If I don’t call, it’s unexcused and the school loses money it can’t afford to lose.) I don’t like doing that -- I did that enough for my oldest on days when there was nothing physically wrong but, for various psychological reasons, school was just not going to be in the cards that day.
Everyone in my house -- husband and teenagers -- thinks I’m being unreasonable in saying my youngest has to go to school. (I suggested a mid-morning complaint of a headache that would necessitate a call to me to cut the day short. That would put the lie on my teenager, not me. I don’t want to teach my kids to lie, but if it’s worth lying about, shouldn’t they be willing to do it themselves instead of making me do it?) But no one seems to think that’s a good enough compromise on my part.
Am I being unreasonable? Should I stick to my position or give in? Or should I do an end-run around my own moral objections, wake up my husband early and make him make the call if he feels so strongly about it?
I'm done.
I must sleep now.
aw shit school's coming and I still have stuff to do
this is not the amount of work I intended to do this summer
Oh my gosh....Someone kill me. I'm so done with school right now. These take-home tests are killer.

The Glee on my dash is breaking my heart, but I can't watch it yet.
I've been on episode 7 of season 3 for weeks.
