Why do you hate our right to defend ourselves so much? If you really cared about improving safety for American society you would be encouraging gun ownership, not trying to stop it. Please improve your knowledge in this issue because you are hurting our country with your words.
It’s absolutely charming that you found your way here, in my Tumblr inbox, instead of having the courage of an American to keep the debate on my Twitter - where, you know, I’m openly and proudly supporting Representative John Lewis and his fight to improve safety for American society.
After all - even though I doubt you’ll be willing to hear this, considering that you are going off the ignorant theory that gun control equals no guns and probably also believe that the Second Amendment doesn’t, in fact, mean that Americans have their right to a well-equipped MILITIA and do not in fact need to keep an assault rifle in the hands of young, impetuous shooters in order to honor said amendment - this fight is to keep young lives from being lost.
This fight is not against guns, but those who keep getting those guns. This fight is for the young lives in Newtown that people like you apparently choose to sweep under the rug. This is a fight over the fact that a shooter on a watch list got his hands on a gun, and a man without a gun was able to stand up against him and survive when a gun was ON the scene and was fired against the shooter and did nothing to save 49 lives.
This fight is about the fact that it’s been years since Columbine and two boys with a vendetta against innocents - who still get canonized right here on Tumblr, mind - and we still don’t have control so the next Elliot Rodger or James Holmes or God knows who else may crop up with an equally memorable, just your normal American boy next door face on the next news cast won’t be shooting up the nearest elementary school or theater or mall or holding people hostage at the local Wal-Mart or threatening innocent Muslims because apparently we are the enemy and the guy who NEEDS an assault rifle to, I don’t know, menace people isn’t.
I understand guns. I don’t like them. I understand their place in society and I want to make sure society understands who needs them. Men who cannot use their words, the way the Founding Fathers wanted, men who don’t appreciate the right for life and liberty and the pursuit of happiness without wondering if you’ll see your loved ones again when they walk out the door to get an education is not the hands that guns need to be in.
Racist men threatening me on Twitter because apparently my life and my safety is overshadowed by their need to coddle an inanimate object is apparently more important, though. That is the hill we apparently need to die on. Constantly. Every single day of 2016.
Please improve your knowledge in this issue because you are shaming our Founding Fathers with your words - and your cowardly anonymity.
