it remains so funny to me that andoain is one of the biggest doubters of laterano in the game, yet his design is the most angelic of all the sankta. everything from his wings to his halo to the fact that he got to take a shot at the fucking pope and still didn't end up Fallen tells us that andoain is God's Special Favorite Boy and when not brainwashed his reaction to all that is just "[long pained sigh] that's nice, can we maybe help the poor people now?"

One thing I like about Arknights’ writing is that it doesn’t hesitate to put even the most well meaning characters as undeniably in the wrong sometimes. Take Andoain as an example.

Andoain genuinely wants the best for everyone by sheer virtue of knowing how other people live and concluding that they deserve to live just as well as everyone else. He gets Horrific Revelations back to back and he gets through it by sitting down and genuinely conversing with them. He’s able to tell that a false happiness isn’t real happiness at all especially if all it does is forcibly make you ignore your grief and strife.

He’s also a bad fuccin friend bro.

Even if you, for some reason, don’t count the part where he put Lemuen in a wheelchair using his arts. The Horrific Revelations have made him so self aware that he kind of loses sight of everything around him. He’s so fixated on the Greater Good and Knowing Everything that he just doesn’t think to address his personal relationships. He thinks his suffering is so important he doesn’t think that he should even be able to be forgiven by people like Fiametta, when it’s very clear that it’s not forgiveness that she wants, it’s closure.

Time and time again, his old teammates reach out to him and try to connect with him and he shuts it down constantly. Lemuen asks him what he Saw so they can help him and he goes all chuuni like “No… It’s not for you to know…” all dramatically.

Fia straight up tells him, “I don’t want you to decide you’re the unforgivable one here, I want you to apologise so I can reject your apology.” And Andoain responds with, “… I feel bad. I don’t think I can be forgiven.” And very clearly not having the words ‘I’m sorry’ in any of the paragraphs of dialogue to the people he wronged. In some ways it really mirrors a bit of Pagnini and Patrizion’s broken relationship.

It’s emotional self harm at best, and self aggrandising at worst.

I love him, he’s a good guy, he’s also horrible, I want to kick him into the ocean like a football.
