The Bohemian Life 1992 dir Aki Kaurismaki
Leningrad Cowboys Meet Moses (1994)
SUBLIME CINEMA #454 - LE HAVRE
Aki Kaurismaki has been making these beautiful compact films since the 80′s; there exists a production system in Europe and his native Finland to produce the types of movies that he makes - intelligent, socially aware dramas and dry comedies (often a combination of the two), which don’t exactly bring in millions or fit into a typical genre, but they’re just great movies. He’s one of the rare directors who’s managed a career doing exactly what he wants, under the radar and with just enough clout to where he's never needed to compromise.
His one compromise was the threat to switch to digital in his later years. He is one of the fiercest proponents of maintaining 35mm, calling digital filmmaking childish crap, while admitting he was an old codger, sitting on his fence, throwing stones backwards to an audience who doesn’t care. But his passion for real film medium - elokuva, living images, in Finnish, remains, and he pledged to keep filming on stock as long as labs and the stock itself are available to him. But - he has since announced that he was done directing, refusing that very compromise.

Kira ödemek ve yemek yiyecek parayı bulmak gibi gerçek dertlerin arasında, sanatsal kaygılar ve eserleriyle farkındalık yaratmak gibi soyut dertler de taşıyan yeteneksiz…
