ESXLA is pleased to present UFF DA, recent paintings by Andrea Joki and Stacy Wendt.
Both Minnesota natives, the artists are currently serving as community artists in residence at Eastside International, a unique living arrangement that meshes daily life and art alongside artists coming and going from all corners of the earth. The creative hive interrupts tunnel vision and shifts habits, and makes space for new ways of seeing and making. Their recent paintings were made in this spirit.
Andrea Joki is a painter whose kinetic language embraces gesture and geometry in distilling ideas of perception and sensory experience. While mining the ghosts of art history, her work is informed by contemplations of the natural world and our place in it. She received her MFA from Kent State University in 2006. She lives and works in Los Angeles and Cleveland.
Stacy Wendt is an artist making energetic, gestural abstract paintings. Saturated with color, pattern and lively brushstrokes, her works confront you with their attitude and play. She lives and works in Los Angeles and is co-curator at Class Projects LA. Wendt received her MFA in 2015 from Claremont Graduate University.
