THE EVIL WITHIN- 2017 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
One of my favourite movies....
Production for this film started in 2002. It was directed by Andrew Getty, a man who had no experience of any kind directing a film. He was also the grandson of oil tycoon billionaire J Paul Getty. Andrew sank an estimated 4-6 million dollars into this film leaving him in financial ruin. He then spent 15 years obsessing over it. Rewriting, reshooting and recutting scenes constantly in search of the perfect final cut of his movie. He died of injuries caused by his ongoing crystal meth addiction before completing the film. His producer Michael Luceri completed it for him and released it where it went straight to video....
The movie is about Dennis (Frederick Koehler) a mentally challenged guy who lives with his older brother John (Sean Patrick Flannery). Dennis is haunted by a dream demon (Michael Berryman) who tricks him into killing people so he can cross over to his world. Theres a lot more going on but thats the main idea.
The script would constantly change and actor would be asked to come back after a few years to film more scenes or record new dialogue and often saw the scenes were completely unrelated to things they had previously done.
The Evil Within is a strange mashup of ideas. There are plot points and characters that go nowhere. Some of the craziest dialogue ive ever heard in a movie:
"She wouldnt fuck you with someone elses pussy. She wouldnt fuck a retard. How disgusting. But a serial killer....."
The movies strongest aspect is the visual effects and camera work which is pretty brilliant. Remember watching this for the first time and being blown away by how unique some of the filmimg techniques were.
To summarise, this is one of the most intersting horror films you could ever see. Some parts of it are brilliant. Some parts legitamately creepy. Some parts of it are so fucking stupid you can't believe what youre seeing. There are so many funny moments in this movie. Tremendous.
One of my favourite movies.
the evil within (andrew getty, 2017)
The Evil Within is a pretty interesting horror movie with an even more interesting development history. It follows a mentally handicapped man who befriends a demon living in a mirror who convinces him to kill people while his older brother struggles with the stress of being his caretaker and having social services breathing down his neck threatening to take his brother away.
This is Andrew Getty's first and only film; a passion project he spent 15 years filming and editing since production began back in 2002 before his long term drug abuse problems caught up to him and he passed away in 2015, leaving the producer, Michael Luceri, to finish the film. It's a bizarre experience with nightmarish visuals but man, did Getty have a vision for this film that came together pretty well all things considered; a waking nightmare where the line between reality and dreams are blurred for the protagonist.
