2017 Story Highlights: Clarkesworld Issue 129

When I find myself wanting to write a Story Highlight post about every original story in an issue, maybe it's better to simply write a post about the issue itself.

I feel like every piece in Clarkesworld 129 has been gold.

“The Ways Out” by Sam J. Miller and “My Dear, Like the Sky and Stars and Sun“ by Julia K. Patt are both excellent character pieces with great world building that never gets in the way of the character arcs. I’d love more stories in both of these worlds.

“Fools Cap” by Andy Dudak is a mind trip in all the best ways. It does leave me with a feeling of “wait, what?” at the end, but this isn’t a bad thing. I simply means that I need to give it another read.

And “Neptune’s Children” by Nina Allen is my favorite kind of story, slow moving but full of rich, environmental language that finds time to think about the little moments between characters. This is one of my favorite stories of the year (so far).

I highly recommend Clarkesworld Issue 129.
