Coati Mundi with the Coconuts and the Kid Creole band, "Que Pasa/Me No Pop I"
Playing before audiences in NYC and London, Kid Creole and The Coconuts were inspired outliers, stylistically, musically, thematically, and just-about-every-other-way-edly different from anything on the scene. Here, playing for what looks to be a theater full of German high school students, the band, fronted by percussionist, singer, and songwriter Coati Mundi, had to have been seen as beamed in from another galaxy.
The very talented and apparently inexhaustible Coati Mundi aka Spanish Harlem's own "Sugar-Coated" Andy Hernandez, in tandem with The Coconuts, the hardest-working backup singers in the business, and the shit-hot Kid Creole band, presents his semi-hit (#32 in the U.K. in 1981) in a frenzied, funky performance of singing, flute-playing, and acrobatic dancing that could've powered a small town.
Just excellent.
When the goddess energy takes over.
