Ride - This Is Not a Safe Place (2019)...Not your typical Ride material but definitely better than Weather Diaries. It’s a hard job to re-create what they’ve done in the past. The best they can do is stay on their own path while embracing the new ideas and creativeness. It usually doesn’t work for most bands who makes a return but these guys have made it work and maybe not to a perfection like Slowdive or MBV did with their return albums. This is still a good album not only for their old fans but for new audiences as well. RIDE - Weather Diaries (2017). New album in more than 20 years. Had big expectations for this release as a fan and in line with other shoegaze bands such as Slowdive and MBV who both have comeback with incredible releases. Lots of people have praised this release and I understand why but frankly let's be honest this is nowhere in comparison to Going Blank Again. They obviously have tried to upgrade their sound to more current standards, but it just doesn't work here. Maybe it's just me, but something is really off on this record. Where are all the hooks and beautiful melodies that I always remembered them to be. Maybe too much of old RIDE still lingers in me to accept this new found sound, who knows maybe I'll like it with time, which I doubt.
