sometimes i think about Angel’s first weeks in Atheris and like. on the one hand, they probably secretly embarrassed themself so often, because it really was a crash course on everything modern. like they didn’t even have a frame of reference for what phones were or what the fuck a computer did. i forget if i mentioned anywhere, but they’re far beyond the fall of humanity in their world so even their parents wouldn’t have held that firsthand experience or memory to pass onto them. so they honestly broke so many things in private or just. poked at things until they figured it out.

but on the other hand, they must’ve been so scared. 😭 like, aside from just. the overwhelming nature of sudden always constant technology, but. just being around so many, many people for the first time in their life. they tried so hard to fit in to not catch any undue attention even though they were never really dishonest regarding their lack of knowledge when others would point it out. but like genuinely the poor thing was so anxious, i think i mentioned them nervously fiddling with their pant leg or jacket nearly every early interaction

even if they were at some point more comfortable conversing, they’d been alone for so long (aside from The Dread in their head, which… lol) that the sheer increase in people around them was mostly just overwhelming

they’ve definitely come a far way but man, it was an uphill battle

Thought about the comparison of Angel and Zephyr. Thought about how Zephyr sees so much of himself in Angel and understands exactly how they’re feeling and why. Thought about how he sympathizes with Angel, but is also excited despite himself to find someone else like him and Silas, but even more than that is jealous of them. Thought about how it stings seeing someone be so loved and accepted even after the hurt they inadvertently caused for reasons beyond their control when he's never been treated the same. Thought about the difference between seeing yourself as a monster when the monstrous is separate from you, and being seen as a monster when all you want to be is accepted for who you are. They're so similar and yet so different, they understand each other and at the same time could never understand. It makes me very sad, I hope they end up good friends.
