according to my mum who works in a shop, they have to use the ‘think 25’ scheme even for 16 rated products. She says she has to ID someone buying a 16 product (e.g. red bull) if she thinks they look under 25, and they also send random people in to test them. Also even if the same customer who looks young comes in repeatedly, she has to ID them every time, even if she’s seen their ID on a previous visit in case anyone is watching to make sure it’s being done. It’s crazy.
yeah, I used to work in a petrol station myself and had to ID anyone who looked under 25 for the cigarettes, but we didn’t bother with the energy drinks lmao. I can’t remember if the law was a thing then though? or if we just didn’t give a fuck. knowing that place it was probably just that we didn’t give a fuck.
I would be comforted by the “under 25″ thing because I know I certainly look under 25, but then I’m confronted by the fact that I still get child tickets on the bus (for under 16s) and I get the impression they’re not asking for ID because they think I’m under 25... they’re asking because they think I’m under 16 😩
