All Jaime x Brienne, all Game of Thrones S8 fix-its.
The Arrangement by StarkWolf (21,056 words, first posted 25 Aug 2020, last updated 27 Oct 2021)
Summary: Not even a day old, Brienne’s daughter was beautiful in a way Brienne had never been, and seldom seen. Twice. She had only seen two such people to be carved from gold until her daughter. The first time Tyrion had held her daughter, he had closed his eyes as if she was the most painful sight he has ever set his eyes upon. It only seemed the Gods who had never particularly been in her favour would curse her more so, for her little, beautiful, breathtaking daughter looked exactly like her aunt who was once a queen of the Seven Kingdoms.
Things I Love: Sansa and Brienne’s care for each other, Tyrion and Brienne building a friendship, fallout from how Daenerys’ story ended, tension between Jaime and Brienne, how wonderful Brienne is as a mother (despite the fact I don’t particularly like show post-canon fic about Brienne carrying Jaime’s bastard).
Winter Should Have Meaning by kirazi @kiraziwrites (12,460 words, first posted 10 Oct 2019, 01 July 2020)
Summary: She almost kills a man the day she finds out Jaime is alive.(A companion story to A Great Fountain from Brienne's perspective.)
Things I Love: How kirazi writes Brienne’s voice, Brienne’s competence, a different look at A Great Fountain, which is a heartbreaking, heartwarming, and beautiful story, Brienne and Sansa’s friendship, how much Podrick and Brienne love each other and take care of each other, Brienne’s friendships with Davos, Sam, and Gilly.
What Is, And What Can Never Be by AngelsOfMercy (120,803 words, first posted 22 May 2019, last updated 24 March 2022)
Summary: What is a soulmate? Some people think a soulmate is your perfect fit, a mirrored reflection of themselves. The truth couldn't be more different. A soulmate is someone who holds the mirror up to you, who shows you everything that is holding you back and inspires you to change, to become who you were always meant to be. The best version of you. A soulmate is someone who sees you for your true self, the good and the bad parts of your soul, and still loves you completely. No matter what happens in life, how they might be separated, soulmates will always find their way back to one another. Here is the story of how two pairs of soulmates are reunited, despite all the obstacles in their path.
Things I Love: That this has been on my list of WIPs to highlight and it updated again before I could do so, how much Brienne and Sansa love and care for each other, Sansa’s sharp intelligence, Northern politics, another terrible trip across the realm for Jaime and Brienne.
It matters by red375 (20,676 words, first posted 13 June 2019, last update 02 Sep 2019)
Summary: “Do you matter now?” Bran asks. A pause. “You and Cersei never did.” He always assumed he’d be remembered for something. For Aerys. For Cersei. For “Brienne does”
Things I Love: Bran’s slow return to showing emotions, Jaime’s angry confusion over what role he could have possibly played even though Bran told him he had one, Sansa’s protectiveness over Brienne, Cersei getting to be cruel and furious and active in her own war, Brienne angry and sad in turns, determined to rebuild her walls and protect Sansa, Arya, and Podrick who have made it inside her walls despite herself, how Podrick protects Brienne as best he can, Sam showing what he can do for love of his brothers even as he rages, Brienne commanding men again and reuniting with her father, the tension and cliffhanger of that last chapter.
thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men by Roccolinde (45,808 words, first posted 04 March 2021, last updated 20 May 2021)
Summary: Six months after becoming Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Brienne is dismissed from her post in order to serve the kingdoms through a marital alliance. She returns home to Tarth to face the life she'd once rejected, the suitors vying for her hand, and the grief she has been denying.
Things I Love: That Brienne is allowed her anger at being asked to do something the men of the small council aren’t being asked to do (”I swore my sword, not my cunt. Not my womb. Not my freedom”), the various suitors, the complicated emotions between Jaime and Brienne, twisted, manipulative politics going on behind the scenes, Brienne trying to deal with Roelle.
